Name of The STIG is discovered...

I have today found the actual man who is BBC Top Gear's STIG.

He is former Police Instructor and traffic persuit driver Hugh Noblett. So, now we all know.

No, I have never heard of him either, so there you go. True.

No, turns out this BBC stig is in fact a 65 year old driving instructor - and not a very good one either! You can see this 'stig' on BBC's real story here:

The bearded chap with the glasses?  As an instructor, he is most definately 'old school' and does not impress.  His Police parentage is obvious though.

As the Stig?  Instructional abilities and driving abilities are not the same thing.
