Competition proposal - Lakes meet
« on: 31 May 2007, 10:56:17 »

Just had a wee brainfart of an idea, seeing as how the MPG of our cars comes up often as a topic.

How about a competition for those attending the lakes meet to see who can get the best fuel consumption from a 3 litre?  Would need to be some ground rules, such as car must be driven and not towed etc etc....  Might be able to do it in classes - 2.5, 3 litre, diesel etc?  Since I've a 3 litre, I'll put up a prize (of my choosing) for those similar.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like fun, but we also need to set a minimum speed to avoid everyone arriving mid-morning on Sunday ;-)

Damn! Just remembered I'm planning on going for a Thursday night B&B and blat around Snowdonia on the way up. That's me out of the running.  ;D

Good idea Broocie, but do you not think it'd be quite easily frigged?

i.e. reset your Ave MPG just before you get to the site and coast as much of the rest of the way as poss'.

Sorry bud', not meaning to dampen your squib so-to-speak!!!

Yep, suppose so.....   :-/

But it could also be confirmed from the fuel comp as to miles run and fuel used.  Not so easy to rig, as well as getting an autoroute type distance from home to venue to confirmish miles covered, allowing for minor detours?

Frightened of putting up the 2.5's & 3.0's again the 2.0's and 2.2's then?

Nope.

If t'were done in classes, then I am prepared to sponsor the 3 ltr comp with a prize, seing as how I have one.  No reason for not having an overall prize, covering all classes.

Just a suggestion...... :-/

Dont think id win the 2.2 class as my fuel comp usually reckons av of 23mpg running on lpg  ;D

But that is a bit better than the 20mpg it used to reckon  :D

I'll take on the challenge, 40 miles towing a caravan with a 2.2.  All you 3.0 should beat that  :y

AA route map tells me that my journey is 325.40 miles and will take 5.39 houres to do.[yea right] so this i have printed and will see how accurate that is.Will reset computor at start of journey, and have a comp just on ave speed and mpg as we are coming from all over the country. :) :D :)
