hi people,

I will be in the market for 4 new tyres very soon , what is the correct size for 2.2 year 2002. and also what is considered the best make for an omega,

will probably buy online and have fitted by a local garage,

and any suggestions as to best place online to buy.

I have used http://www.event-tyres.co.uk/ several time now over the years.  Competitive price and they come to your door and fit them.  Man with van has all the gear and you only pay the chap when fitted and happy.

I have a new set of Uniroyal's (Rainsport 3) and very happy with them.  The 4 wheel geometry set up probably helped

225/55/16, speed rating is W or higher, load rating is 93 or higher.

As for what type, what do you want? Something round, black and as cheap as possible, even if it will put you in a lamp post? Something capable of more enthusiasm?

I'll be looking for Kumo31s again, if I can find them. Might have to be eBay. 

Great tyre, low road noise, excellent wear rate, good dry and wet grip.

Got Nexen N6000s on 3.2, they are shite! So easy to break traction when no way near trying to!

I'll be looking for Kumo31s again, if I can find them. Might have to be eBay. 

Great tyre, low road noise, excellent wear rate, good dry and wet grip.

Lack of feedback is my biggest critism of them. No warning of when they are going to kill you .  Also, started to get pricey for a budget tyre.

Got Nexen N6000s on 3.2, they are shite! So easy to break traction when no way near trying to!

I agree entirely. However, they are stonkingly stable.

Different car, different power and weight distribution. For OPs car, also a 2.2 ,in my opinion and 25k mile use they would be fine.

An equally rediculous counter to the quoted post. ....its true though.

 I'm aware of the 31 on omegas. It would be unfair to present them as a good tyre in relation to grip level. For the money, they are an expensive mid range tyre.

Re the is300 she fitted sport maxx RT instead. With similar affect in stability. But given the is300 is a far more stable chassis, the instability was less by a factor of about 75%

The tyres I got fitted was Neuton NT5000 tyres from neobrothers.co.uk.  Very very pleased with them and I would buy them again.

I thought at the time the NT8000 was a direct replacement for the NT5000 but they are not, not here in the UK only in Europe AFAIK. Our weather conditions here are better suited to the NT5000 and that's why they still sale them here.

Before recommending any tyres, we need to understand the OP's requirements and expectations.

For example, and I'm sure tunnie won't mind me berating him one more time, but what is suitable for me would be completely unsuitable for him. Even though he has discovered what TC feels like.


And obviously you're all wrong. Without doubt, the best tyre for the Omega was the (sadly obsolete) Sport Maxx TT.  Stonkingly good tyre for the Omega. Very reasonable grip laterally and longitudinally, reasonable life if driven sedately, best ever for straight line stability, and amazing feedback and consistency. You always knew when and which tree was going to kill you.

This is for the 2.2 Estate which is mainly used around town with very occasional longer runs when the 2.5 is off the road. Used to carry a boot full of wood often and not driven in any way 'enthusiastically'. Price and safety (predictability) are both important.

Mine seems to have developed sensitivity to the road surface again now! No where near as bad as before the wishbone change and step but still a backwards step

Tyres worn down a bit?

It is the omega way if so... Well that's a bit un fare actually. Handling will go off as the tyres wear. It's just the omega seems so sensative to tyre profile re stability, IME.

 The full extent of decline in stability depends on which tyre, some are worse that others. The Dunlop TT for instance, degrades quite badly after 5k on an omega. Noticeably worse than an sc3 for example with the same miles.

Brand new tyres - got it handing well with 'evergreens' on the front, changed to  Runway and noticed on drive to Doncaster today on certain surfaces - M1 roadworks for example - it was trying to set off all over the place.
