'tis true. Seal up a crankcase and the blowby gases WILL exit somewhere and the cam cover gaskets are the least hassle of all the possibilities! Clean breathers are the answer.

The manufacturer will always use the cheapest solution to the problem. Vx obviously thought the plastic cam covers were good enough, and they probably passed all their development tests.

I remain unconvinced that the plastic ones have less rigidity, though the metal ones have larger gasket area...
