I'd settle for welding a small patch over the hole myself (seam welded obviously).

By the time you removed it to weld you would have fitted another/new sump ..... unless you're going to weld it with oil in there!  :-?  :-?
If it's as small a leak as the OP leads us to believe, then there would be nothing wrong with welding a small plate over the top of the hole while the sump is in situ and filled (unlike the epoxy resin solution, which really needs to be "clean" while it cures).

It's easier to re-apply ythe epoxy putty if need be than put the the fire out in the engine bay after you set fire to it!  ;D

Right my co-worker last night put some sealant over the hole but im not sure it designed for things like this, as the sump gets very hot and im guessing it will just cause the sealant to come loose  ::) but its a quick fix for now till i got the time to get it sorted.

Haynes never did a manual for the Omega did they? i got told that the 2.2 from the vectra is the same engine and you can use the manual for them on the omega, is that right? :question

IIRC the sump is in 2 parts, if its the part with the sump plug i'm sure you can remove it with the engine in situ

Yeah i think its the part of the sump with the plug , the rust spot it right at the front of the sump, i think the garage yesturday said the sump is in 2 pieces the front streel and the back aluminium.

Right im just on my way to halfords to buy some of this epoxy putty that you guys have recommended as a tempory fix for the sump leak, but while on their site i was treatments for rust , i was just wondering do you think this stuff would be worth adding first before the putty? just to help seal up the hole :question

I would'nt bother with that for a temp fix - it may get you an extra month or so - no idea

you have a few rust spots on the sump but it does not mean you need to replace it.  the spot that is leaking, it is on a flat part of the sump?  If so I'd suggest a good, drop the sum as best you can and fit a bolt through two flat washers, one inside and one out.  tighten up and you are there.  As to the others,  i'd clean down to bare metal, then pain with primer, then two coats of hammerite paint  who cares what it looks like if it doesn't leak!
