Smoke from engine
« on: 01 November 2011, 11:22:50 »

I noticed smoke coming up from the engine bay when i switched the car off today. It came from just left of the power steering resevoir. I am baffled as to what this is - and can see no wear marks anywhere and despite further testing cannot replicate it. Any ideas? I first thought a gust of wind pushed exhaust fumes but there is no wind today :'(

Left of the power steering reservoir....so between reservoir and engine?

Sounds like a leak from the camcover seal. Pull off the HT leads on that side, if the camcovers are leaking then the spark plug recesses usually fill with oil and you would see it on the HT lead plug cap.

It happened again today and when i popped the bonnet sounded like a dripping at back of plenum but i couldn't look underneath as i have done my back in good style - its probably hbv i hear you say but i know it could be other things also. Top hose to rad was hot but not leaking. I am getting very concerned about this know and don't want it exploding on me!

I thought i woulld pick up a hbv from the stealers this lunchtime just in case - whilst there they had a promotion on 5ltrs of coolant for £8.50+ vat which i thought was pretty good - so got some of that as well. There were other promos on batteries and wiper blades too.

Sounds expensive, unless you are paying full retail...
