Brake switch
« on: 23 November 2011, 17:43:43 »

Having read the "how to, looked at the new switch and laid on my back looking at the in situ I am at a loss to see an easy way of removing the brake switch (4 pin) or have I missed something?

On the ones I have worked on there is a central sleeve surrounding the actuating rod. This needs to be moved outwards down the actuating rod away from the main body. Once done, the tangs on the side of the body can be squeezed in to allow switch removal. Pics and explanation in my retrofit cruise to a prefacelift in the howtoo section.  :y

Hotel I understand that but when I move that sleeve it does not do anything or allows the tangs to move as it is a parralell tube, I am holding it in my hand as it is the spare that Albs sent. Fitted cruis and no work, checked stalk and think that fine, so was advised to go with brake switch next then change actuator, car is 2.0L F/L

That's my recollection too! Having to hold the pedal down, trying to release the mechanism, and doesn't it rotate too?
Think I gave up in the end (shame on me  :-[ ) but it was a devil to fit in the first place, and I couldn't get it back out  :-\

Have a look at the last few pics here

Rob thanks for that makes it very clear, except have tried it on the one Albs sent and as can be seen it will not extend as far as the other, do not want to use force, hope the one in the car will be easier

Pull the grey plunger out, it has a ratchet to adjust for pedal position. Once the grey bit is fully extended, the red bit will also pull out far enough to allow the two latches to be pressed in.
Be aware that the latches are quite brittle, squeeze them in just enough to release the switch from the bracket.

Thats just the point matchless everything in the picture is out to its fullest extent, would this suggest this might not be a good repelacment? :'(

if you push the red bit back down keeping hold of the grey plunger you will find that the grey plunger will come out further then the red tube will come out further afterwards  :y
