i'm passing Dumfries in August.... he can dot he Jag on my way to Glasgow  ;)

242
My driveway is a foot shorter than the Mv6....
and I've now swapped the insurance to the Jag,
so ,under the new and bloody stupid continuous insurance rules,   as i understand it,  I   am required to send tax back and SORN it ,  at which point it becomes harder to do anything with.....

reckon i can get away with the end of the week,  but seriously, it needs to be done.

Ebay failed to reach the £750 reserve,  highest bid was £350   and i will get more (considerably so...  )  for returning the tax and weighing it in (AND there's a scrappy less than a mile from my house)

243
Well,  it's off to the scrap yard then.

i'll send the tax back and scrap it end of the week,   not got time or patience or space to be dicking about....

what irritates me is the number of WW2 films based on real missions,   that involve americans ,  who were never in fact involved at all.....

(one's grandfather on the other hand,  very much was.....  )

I bought my 2.5 v6 estate ,  after inspecting the sills...... :D
even had the thing up in the air on a tyre fitting lift....   not quite spotless ,  but damn good underneath...

covered 1500 miles in the last 10 days since purchase ...

It IS smaller than the Mv6 estate....

however,

i've just got back from some of the most enjoyable roads in the UK,  after a weekend away in North Wales....

the Jag has less grunt,  it's not quite as quick, definitely lacks some of the brutality the Mv6 is capable of,  BUT frankly is much more rewarding to drive relatively quickly than my Mv6....   it's tidy, tight, well behaved,   point and squirt,  the steering feel is much better,  the suspension is a bit tighter....

all the toys work ,  and it's really very comfortable....   and i've done a number of long journeys.. both on motorway and A-B road.

For example Thursday, as everyone knows,   the M25 was a disaster area both morning and afternoon  ,   I went from Oxford to Tonbridge in kent,   and back,  and despite spending about 3 hours of a total 6 hour journey time , sat in stop start 1Mph traffic....   i still managed to return 31.4 mpg over the 220 mile round trip,

try that in a 3.2 Mv6 ....     nope....  it doesn't do it.... you can't....

this weekend,  Friday, up to Colwyn Bay, Saturday down to Llangwnadl (end of the Lleyn)  ,  today , back to Oxfordshire, via  Porthmadog ,LLyn Celyn,  Bala,  via Lake Vyrnwy , Dinas Mawddwy   , then cross country....  Welshpool to Worcester , Evesham, Stow, Burford,  Witney, Abingdon, home....       for fun,....  some great bits of road.... and not a helluva lot of traffic....

the Jag ate it up,  still returned around  30 mpg despite being heavily laden (guitar amps,  guitars, assorted other equipment,  wife and luggage for a wedding do for 3 days... )  and energetically driven in many places , and ..

i still like the Omega.....  but i'm enjoying the Jag too !      and , having done the same journeys,  more than once,  in the mv6,  i can definitely say i'm enjoying the reduction in petrol use....

this weekend ,  it's used 79.4 litres to cover 527 miles,       (filled up when we left,  , topped it up in colwyn bay,  filled up again when we got back.   so i know exactly how much it's used )

when i'm "enjoying" my driving,  I drive a bit Like TB....    so.....  slow , gently,  or economically aren't generally words used to describe my progress making.

not really had much rain since i bought it,  but i'm keeping a close eye on it for water leakage.. ...

any pain?

usual suspect is a blockage of the eustachian tube ,  stops the ear pressure equalising....  if there's an infection in there, you get fluid build up as well, which effectively means you lose everything bar very low frequency (bass)    , if unbalanced (only one ear) then it sounds to you like losing all hearing in one ear...

if you've had a cold and used decongestants of any kind, it's likely the dried up mucus has formed a blockage .

see quack, and if they can't see a damn good reason, do not spend a month of antibiotics....  get yerself to the ENT specialist pronto.....  do not prevaricate,  or accept moany excuses about not being that serious .....

it can be many other things.....  in my case it was a tumour......   which they  removed pretty damn fast once ENT had spotted it.....

anything like that James, do NOT dick about,  get it sorted, get it done properly,  and do so right fekking now

I read the thread,  I came to the conclusion that he wasn't actually trying to break the rules, and was genuinely , both dismayed at what happened to his Miggy, and slightly at a loss as to what to do next.....   and was genuinely looking for advice.....     it being rather an unusual state of play regarding the Miggy....

but , my evidence for that conclusion was both circumstantial , conjecture, and subjective....

so many others may have read it differently....

It's a bit strong calling it disgraceful behaviour, but hear me out....     it's a judgement call on the part of an admin to decide whether it's a thinly disguised attempt to circumvent the rules,  or not,....    and as you say, none of them actually know you, so , from their perspective,  best to err on the side of upholding the rules.... and although i didn't read it as a for sale thread,  i did ponder, much the same question.....

and ,  in the case of such things, typically,  judges decisions are final, and the judges make the rules, as they see fit...  they own the forum outright...    it is not a public free for all....   essentially, we, the public, have no "rights" to post what we want without interference....  such is the nature of ALL forums of it's type...

it's a rough old job being a forum admin.... you cannot please all the people all of the time, and inevitably some judgment calls are going to ruffle peoples feathers when they see things differently.....    I did it for ten years on a forum owned and hosted by a commercial publication  with (at time of leaving) over 80,000 individual registered users , in a field of human endeavour generally pursued by highly passionate people (music and audio engineering) .....  tempers often got frayed , and the forum management team got lambasted on occasion,  generally rather unfairly.....

in the end,  i retired after 10 years long and often unrewarding service.....

and i will never take on such a role again.....

you probably best hope the admin team here don't take the same view, as the forum is hosted on a server in one of their homes.....  it'll be   bye bye omega owners.com

I am extremely thankful that Hotel21,  TheBoy , MarkDTM , Jimbob, and others DO take the time, make the effort and keep the place running relatively smoothly ...

But i do sympathise to some extent,  were it me, i THINK i'd have made the call different,  but then,  it's easy to say that when you're not in the hot seat.....  and if i were,  maybe i would have made the same decision....

it's nothing personal against you......   they're just doing their jobs as best they can.... they ARE human (mostly;)   )

tried a 2.8T elite.... familiar territory for equipment,  knew what everything did, and how to use it all,   but  hated it..... like being dragged about by a jack russell on a tiled floor chasing a cat....  ,   and felt every little bump in the road like it was a personal assault on my spine.    but decided i probably would have learned to live with the 3.0CDTI Elite for the fuel cost savings...if i could find one.....   at the right price,  without having been to the moon and back....   ....

learning how stuff works in the jag is a STEEP learning curve....     haven't as yet put it through the voice control training....  (yes it's fitted !) but the sat nav is okay,  as is the phone,   but i'm still looking for a way to get my contacts list (iphone,  so a bit of a bugger)  on to the sim card to transfer it  (the nav/stereo apparently  just predates the bluetooth version....   i can get the module etc and retrofit, but it's about £500 secondhand (with aerial module etc) ....  it's about as rare as hens teeth , bit like  a teletronics. )

there's a few little niggles,  as would be expected,  right hand side luggage cover clip is broken,  but found a replacement for about 3 quid....   ,  it's missing it's tool kit,  but at least it has a jack !     a few bubbles of corrosion on window trims (will be replaceable i think) , but none on the body work...     brake disks are okay, but a bit thin , so will replace them in the not massively distant future... but masses of meat on the pads....

stupid bloody space saver spare.....    haven;t measured up yet,  but pretty damn sure i won;t get an 18x7.5  inch full size spare wearing 225/40  in there.....

it was also missing the locking wheel nut key..... ARGHHHH

went to Jag.....     they charged me.......  get this....    £9.71 inc vat to remove the locking wheel nuts,  supply and fit 4 new std ones,   and gave me posh tea and biscuits while i waited.    (and will order me a new set of locking ones as they cannot supply the new key,  apparently the manufacturer doesn't allow it....   to be fair it's a type i've never seen before...  ....so i don;t know the score,  i've had replacement keys from other manufacturers in the past,  but frankly the cost  was about the same as Jag talked about for the whole set. ITRO £65 )

and the price of a full  main service.....  ?   all fluids and filters etc etc.....    £299 inc vat.
that's £80 LESS than i was quoted by VX main stealer recently on the omega.

Minor service is £199.   which doesn't seem so great....

one irritation is the speedo, it's all there, and works etc,  but the small diameter means it's all a bit squashed up, there's not a helluva lot of distance between the 10's ,   trying to drive in a 30 limit is somewhat variable .....   mostly because i'm damned if i can tell if i'm doing 28 or 32.

Stereo sounds WAY BETTER  than the omega .....

;)  which is nice for me.... I was happy with Bose rig,  but the bog std NCDC was a bit pants....    but this is much nicer than the Bose rig, never mind the std NCDC.

assorted punitive duty regulations brought in to protect the uncompetitive native car industry, meant it made sense to make locally....  also, shipping manufactured vehicles around the world is inefficient and costly , relative to shipping piles of bits....   then of course there's the sea salt , and extended delivery time on custom options.

one can only hope China never really gets to grips with car manufacture....
