Tail pipe trims are on my "sometime but not important" shopping list along with a replacement set of clocks[more important]and deciding what to do regards the radio. What "paint fix"did you use on the sticky switches?

I just removed the switches, cleaned off the sticky rubber coating with solvent, sanded them down to plastic then used plastic primer, star silver III spray paint (same as door trims and centre console on this car) and clear coat. A professional painter could obviously do a much better job but I decided to give it a try.

Just a trim... been there with the raspy stainless steel exhausts way back... Learnt that a £72 ETS cat back exhaust with two cheap trims on the back is infinitely better!!!

I’ve struggled to find suitable trims, when 2 pipes are so close together.

Which ones exactly did you get? Looks smart  :y

Just ebay ones I think. The problem is that all the £20 and below ones will be covered in rust in 12 months, I had the same problem as you with one of the cars, the tail pipes were bent together (not sure if the courier dropped it or ETS made it like that, difficult to pry them apart but managed to slot some trims on by modifying the clamps at the rear of the trims. I would like to get some slash cut (same as original) tips but think a visit to a specialist might be the best route.

Cracking job so far mate. I've been there so know how long it takes  :)

I also have no driveway, or garage, nice to see a few of us on here dont either. I did my old 'Turbo Weasel' FL scabby sticky door trims in a 'piano black' which at the time the Astra VXR was pretty new out, and featured that look. Looked pretty good, and wore very well, i'd recommend to anyone with FL  :)

PS Dynax Underseal meant to be the best on the market, should you wish to put an extra layer of protection on the inner wings.

I had the same problem when I stuck a couple of cheepo ones on mine a couple of years ago.

Fixed by sticking a piece of 2x2 down the pipe and using brut force I opened it up a few mm  ;) :D

A bit of heat first then a breaker bar handle does the job nicely. Heat is necessary in order to soften the metal in order to bend it without fracturing/weakening the pipes where they exit the back box :y

Anyone know what diameter trims are best ? Bearing in mind the close proximity of the pipes to one another even if they are nice and straight.
I think I did the measurements once, but lost the piece of paper.  ::)

Been a while since I updated this thread!

the car has been on holiday at Iceni Automotive (Andy Clears' car restoration business) and has had the rusty rear outer arch lips and rear door repaired and resprayed as well as a replacement front MV6 bumper also prepped and resprayed, I have loads of pictures but here's a few pictures to give you the general idea :)

When I get a chance to wash the car i'll take some more pictures!

I wonder why the N/S/R door is always the one that starts to rust , it was the same with Carlton/Senny  :-\ near the gutter/more salt perhaps

Yes, I'm really pleased with the work Andy has done.

As for the cost, well it was a lot less than I was expecting, this car was just starting to turn the corner and was just caught in time, you can see the rear arches still had good metal on the inner arch panel and the outer panel had the rust contained in just the lip area which meant a repair could be made without having to cut higher up the outer wing panel.

The door issue is common, I have had the same on other Omega's and swapped doors for better ones but they were Z157 Star Silver III cars which is a different story to Z20R Diamond Black! When the car was taken for paint Andy said that they found there were four different versions of Z20R for the year, the version on this car has more red than the other three.

Thanks for all the work Andy!
