I tend to use GM filters throughout, but would strongly recommend GM airfilters over pattern.

Readily available service items like that are simple: find a local supplier of quality brands, whose prices you like, and buy there. That could be a Vx Dealer or some back-street shop, whatever is convienient for you. Trade club is often mentioned here, but it's not the only option. The prices are pretty good, but for me, the hour's roundtrip and gallon of fuel aren't worth it for parts I can have in minutes from several places in town at prices that are very similar. Better in many cases.

Of course for Vx only parts like self levelling shocks or certain sensors etc, then it's a matter of arranging the best discount you can. It never hurts to ask, especially for Omega specific bits as they're likely to be special order. That means they won't be any stocking or inventory costs, which often makes the salesman(which is what the parts bloke actually is) more agreeable to discounting.

Savings can be made by bulk buying too :y

I bought 10 oil filters, four air filters, a pair of pollen filters and 12 plugs from Andy C, think the oil filters worked out at £2.40 each, including the dreaded.

Sure you might leave the dealers having spent £200 including oil, but you're then sorted for a while :y (about a decade given the mileage the gold love bus has done lately  ;D)

Even at retail prices, genuine oil filters are only the price of a decent sandwich :y
