Saw W4LES in Torquay many years ago. I think it was on a Cavalier cabriolet.

I fancied a private some time last year, I found one that suited but it was an Irish plate and was offered for £800 which there is no way I would pay.

Looked for it a while back to see if they had reduced the price but I cant find the website anymore.

All our cars have private plates.  Some DVLA, some Irish.  Prefer them to a date plate but, ultimately, each to their own....   ;)

and Newreg are selling it for.

 Registration Mark:        £565.00
  VAT on Registration Mark:        £98.88
  Compulsory DOT Transfer Fee:        £105.00
  New Reg Price:        £768.88

Wonder who actually owns it, whether it's a commision sale or it's on retention by a company or individual some where.

Is there any way to find out.

Tried to buy it direct from DVLA but they went on about this that and all sorts that I couldnt remember at the time.   :-/

I love how inflation or the cost of living is worked out to small % when calculated, but when it comes to fines or transport changes they make the costs up as they go along.

Now the DOT charge is £105.

When my mate transfered his it was £80., more than a 25% increase.   :-/

We paid £80. You can by the number and retain it for £25 a year. Why you would want to do that I don't know :-/ :-/

Think £80 is the transfer fee, £25 is the fee to reassign to another vehicle, hence the £105.

Don't think its went up in the past few years....

Think all he paid was £80 to transfer from his vectra to his new jeep, will have to ask next time I see him.

But then again I dont allways listen too intently.   :-[

i think its still the same bruce £80 and £25 to retain it you can buy some good registrations from the dvla and the prices range from £250 upwards .you cannot buy a plate that makes your car look newer than it is ie you cannot put a v reg on a r reg  i have two private plates and when you change your cars as much as we do it soon mounts up . :y

£80 to transfer from one car to another car. £105 to transfer it to a retention certificate for 12 months  :y.
