Omega General Help / Gearbox P0730 :( problems never ends
« on: 22 April 2015, 07:11:45 »
Hi everyone, I got another problem...
on Sunday drive to the sea side i had / feels like gearbox slip/ and code p0730 ... after stopping the car and resetting code everything totally normal..
but (checked everyone who got the code and lots of people replaced the gearbox ) so Im looking for new gearbox , just in case.
Is my gearbox AR35 ? what else should i look for?

what do you think about http://lucasoil.com/products/transmission-products/lucas-transmission-fix should I just try it and replace the oil in my gearbox for now ? (order new one anyway)
what exactly do I need to change the fluid in my gearbox ? apart from oil (dextron III ?)

got pew problems with the car :( but still think its so great :)

Omega General Help / Oil leak on Crankshaft Pulley :(
« on: 18 April 2015, 22:06:00 »
Hi guys , my another problem with the car .. oil leak
from crankshaft pulley...
the only thing what do I need to order to have everything ready to replace it ?

I just found one of old post on old website

The oil pump is on the front face of the block on the V6, the crankshaft oil seal presses into it and the lower cambelt idler is bolted to it.

To change the seal you have to remove the cambelt so need a locking & timing kit. You then st the crank at 60 deg. before tdc (to protect the valves) and remove the cambelt crank sprocket by undoing the centre bolt but to do this you must use a long bar bolted to the sprocket to stop the engine turning, do not try any other method or you will shear the keyway inside of the sprocket. You will need a breaker bar plus extension pipe on the bolt plus about a metre bar bolted to the sprocket. You have to be careful to stop the crank turning or you will be replacing bent valves as well.
Once the sprocket is off the seal levers out easily, then pull off the spacer and turn it around so the new seal has fresh metal to run on and press in the new seal. You should use a new sprocket bolt as it is a stretch bolt. Tightening torque is something like 250nm + 60 deg.
Then replace the cambelt etc.

or somebody can recommend any place around norfolk/suffolk where i can do it,
still is the option do it by self.... hmm

Cleaned breather pipes and plenum. fitted new thermostat and inlet pipe ( all works - but in first trial run didn't connect the one of the pipes on the front of the plenum - first thought oh no...... but in closer inspection find out that was only the pipe uffff) B Bolt hurray took me max 6 minutes. Unplug the Power sounder ( was draining battery like crazy )VX told me that new one need to be programmed to the car
few more things to do
VX dealer give me the price for cam cover gaskets £120 all together (or work done by them almost £400)

is it worth to buy the gaskets from VX or different place ?

Have a read of this list...

Quote

Every Omega requires a certain amount of work somewhere between 80-120k miles, regardless of age or model...

Suspension rebuilding,
Aircon condensor,
Camcover gaskets,
HBV,
Autobox fluid/filter,
Door lock motors,
Exhaust.
Coil/dispack,
Thermostat,
Crank/cam sensor.

On cars covering high mileage, these are usually closer together, almost becoming 3/4 year service items...

On cars covering lower annual mileages, these items might seem to follow one from the next, but only need doing once a decade or so.

Geometry should almost be considered a bi annual event due to the state of the roads.

Rust is a bit different as issues go, each car is individual... you have treated it as a temporary measure... if you can weld, then when you pull the shocks, that would be a good time to plate the wheelarch side and treat the engine bay side as well. That way you can be certain that it has been held at bay...

These cars are mechanically predictable, but as they physically age, corrosion does become a greater issue

That's basically all the Omegas issues in a nutshell... approached methodically they are all easy fixes and mostly service items rather than reliability issues :y

need to print it !!  really , exhaust looks like need to be done in this year , one of door motors ( passenger side - not working on the remote)
suspension I would like to do in short future..

worth to do the crank sensor just in case ?

is the 3.0 similar in failures ? or less problematic ?

Thanks Taxi Al ;)
i think that head gasket is ok, checked the dipstick and coolant - definitely not mixing together, morning start is perfect and no any suspicious noises.
but engine is a bit sweaty - rocker gaskets to do and i think  might be oil pan gasket .
coolant when you look on the pictures indeed looks low but look on the middle, the right side of expansion tank is dirty where level should be so it look like low but is not, checked few times after all the posts :) bit  happy but i know the car still need TLC engine wise (mainly need good clean and that small oil sweats around )
still hope to keep the car in mint ( do mint condition first) for many years :)

PS. two weeks ago i had HG gone in my land rover defender --- was driving it and suddenly noise like train chuf chuf chuf

thermostat definitely was genuine from the time when car was new !!!! but you know what ! I got receipt from previous buyer ( invoice from 11.2013 ) for new thermostat.
looks like previous owner wanted to change it by self but when figure out how much work is needed to do it he sold it to guy which i bough it from.
just wonder now how many of those receipts now are real (and is it everything was done like shows on invoices)

Guys you made me scared.  :o
I'm just afraid what next can happen wrong with it apart from thermostat...

what do you mean by HG failure ?
now i see that rocker gaskets need to be replaced as well.
and I think something is draining the battery

coolant ( on the pictures indeed looks low - but when look via the cap looks ok)
