Omega 2.6 v6 - Radiator Fan Replacement
« on: 09 December 2020, 19:57:58 »

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum, so apologies if I am posting this in the wrong section, hoping someone can give some advice/guidance.

I am currently trying to restore my late fathers Omega GLS 2.6 v6. I am after a replacement/new radiator/aircon fan. The code on the unit is: GM 24 436 495 (The left fan of the two you can see when looking at the front of the car)

Can anyone recommend where I can source either a genuine replacement or a suitable new aftermarket replacement.

Thanks in anticipation.

How do?

They are the same, not sided. If it is simply seized, it can be dismantled and freed up with care.  :y

Also, to swap them out the radiator etc needs lifting out from the mounts in order to make room to get them out. Tbis can be done without disconnecting anything, just don't force anything.

Hi,

Thank you for your response, it is appreciated. The fan will spin but sounds like an aircraft taking off and when the fan stops, it stops spinning instantly, so I am guessing bearings?

I am struggling to source a replacement, is it something that could be repaired?

Thanks.  :)

If it basically works, you are halfway there ;)

In short, lubricate it with engine oil and make sure it doesn't foul the frame :y

If you're removing it to do it 'properly' then may as well do both ;)

What I succeeded to do once when changing Air Filter was that this "left one" touched the plastic tube bringing air to engine as the hose coming from air filter box was not in a right place. It bent this plastic tube against the center part of the fan and thus fan could not rotate without strange sound. Perhaps this never happened to anybody else than me...

Part number 24436495 might refer to an assembly, a diffuser cowling with a fan in it. As opposed to the fan itself which might be different between auto and manual. Also I doubt if you'll be able to get a new one from Vaux, except maybe at unviable cost.

Anyway there are a selection of used GM 24436495 cowlings with fans on ebay. This one at £14.50 looks worth a punt if you can't get your one working. Said to be from a Z22XE so should be one of the last made.

They are all the same, only difference is that petrol 4 pots only have one front fan ;)

Thank you, I will check this first, just in case something has moved.  :)
