Omega General Help / 2.5TD FUEL FILTER ASSEMBLY
« on: 27 January 2008, 12:04:52 »
Just below the cast fuel filter head, there's a black plastic-like circular piece with a multi-plug attached to it. Is this the fuel pre-heater or what? Below this, the fuel filter is screwed-on ... much appreciated ...!

Newbie Welcome Area / New Member
« on: 26 January 2008, 19:24:37 »
Hello everyone,
I'm from just outside of Bridgend, South Wales, and run a 1998 2.5TD GLS Estate. Bought it last November, and previously ran a '92 Carlton 2.0 CDX, and then a '99 Omega 2.0 GLS Auto, (both saloons) - the Carlton was a superb towcar for our 22ft caravan. I'm a qualified heavy diesel mechanic, but was made redundant 16 years ago, and am a bit 'lost' on my 2.5 TD.  I've been lucky enough to find a much easier, (and cleaner), job, but still tinker around in my workshop. If I can help anyone, (even moral support!) - please get in touch!

Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / Wanted - X25DT Engine
« on: 14 November 2009, 21:07:03 »
This is a tall order, but I'm looking for a spare X25DT engine for our tractor.

This is the later variant of the 6-pot BMW lump, and needs to be in superb order. Would be willing to take a good manual gearbox too, if still attached.

Cash waiting for the right motor, and willing to travel/collect.

Cars for Sale & wanted / My '98 2.5TD Estate for sale
« on: 15 December 2009, 20:59:12 »
Due to the recent arrival of a newer TD Estate, my well cared-for 1998 tractor is now surplus to requirements, and therefore up for grabs.

151000 miles and a brand-new MoT; currently SORN'd; and in very clean condition.
Serviced every 2500 miles, and chipped.
Very good tyres all-round, a Witter tow-bar, tailgate spoiler, CAR400 radio-cassette player.

Over the past year or so, I've lavished a small fortune on it:
* NEW injection pump
* NEW No.4 injector
* NEW rad/'stat/water pump

It drives superbly, returns 33 mpg locally, and'll happily cruise at 70mph-plus for hours.
One or two little dings and some stone-chipping on the bonnet, surface rust-spot at edge of O/S/R door (as per photos), and a small mark on the head-lining (not guilty!) Occasionally has a slight noise at the front of the engine area when it's hot and on over-run. Was diagnosed as timing-chain/guide wear at Newent, though my local BMW chap has given it the all-clear for many thousands more miles yet. Although he (obviously) stops short of any form of  guarantee, he reckons that I'm being 'over fussy'. Temperature will climb to the 100 mark when towing the caravan up long inclines, but has never gone close to the red. Air-con not working and slight diff pinion oil seal weep.

There you have it fellow OOFers, I've tried to give as accurate a description as I possibly can, and to ensure that nobody's misled. Feel free to get in touch if you need to know anything further.

'Baron von drunk-a-lot' has very kindly posted-up the photos in the reply below. Cheers Jon!
If you want larger-format photos, just PM me your email address.

The asking price ......... well, make a sensible OOF offer!

General Car Chat / Top marks to Wheels in Motion
« on: 23 February 2011, 22:57:33 »
After recently fitting new Poly-bushed Lemforder wishbones, plus both inner/outer track-rod ends, I finally managed a visit to WIM's Chesham premises today.

All that was needed was sub-frame repositioning slightly, and camber resetting to WIM spec.
I'm a fussy tinker, and young Peter invited me to watch the proceedings. I needn't have worried - this chap certainly knew his stuff. All-in start-to-finish time was around an hour - and that included an excellent home-brewed mug of tea with a few biscuits!

So, it's a big 'thumbs up' to WIM from me. :y :y :y :y :y
The TD's handling is now totally transformed and she goes where she's told to! ;)

Oh, and she clocked-up 100k miles near Gloucester on the homeward journey too! ;D

General Car Chat / MoT Passed
« on: 11 January 2011, 10:43:21 »
See:  http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1294522190 firstly.

The TD's just flown through it's annual test again - so I'm a happy chappie! ;D

Got one 'advisory' item though:
"Child seat fitted not allowing full inspection of adult seat belt" :-?

Whilst I should've removed the seat first, (a ten second task!), has anyone else experienced this one? >:(

Kicking meself now, as it'd have been a 'clean sheet' otherwise ..........  :o

General Car Chat / Wish me luck ........
« on: 08 January 2011, 21:29:50 »
Planning on changing the wishbones on the TD tomorrow.
 :D
Got a pair of Lemforders from Jason at All German Parts, and my friendly Vx parts people sourced new nuts/bolts at a very fair price too.
I've also Poly-bushed the front ends of each wishbone, thanks to Turk's advice!
 ;)
Then it'll be a trip to WIM for a full set-up!
 ;D

General Car Chat / Bosal exhausts
« on: 28 June 2010, 09:05:55 »
Anyone on here had experiences of these systems?

Will be looking to replace mine 'cat back' soon, and my local chap (who sells only Bosal), has 'em in stock for a price that's very comparable to genuine Vx.

Am tempted to support the local guy ..........

General Car Chat / Estate Load Liner
« on: 04 March 2010, 21:22:42 »
Any one know where I can source a load liner for a mini-facelift estate please?
I'm led to believe that it's a moulded jobbie that fits neatly into the rear load-carrying area.
Thanks in anticipation!

Obviously, you'll need to PM me your email address.
Very grateful thanks in advance!
