-

-

Bit chilly for that shite this time of year. Brrrrrrrrrrr!
-
i was talking about spring next year to cold now
-
TBH, I'd recommend a couple of day meets first, to test the water :y
Personally it's the 2 big camping meets I concentrate on because they're both a long way from home for me ::)
-
what do u mean by day meets
-
what do u mean by day meets
a meet in the day time, no camping or over-night stays.
Be better to establish a meet first before adding in over-night stays.
-
good idea that see who turns up
-
I'd be up for this :y
-
it dont seem many in wales want a meet
-
There ain't many of us in Wales to be fair bigyin, you could probably fit us in a phonebox ;D
-
Hmmmmmm ..........
Been giving this post some thought :-\
I've previously had the idea of organising a South Wales meet - even had two very suitable locations sorted (and one of 'em had a ramp/workshop!). However, I personally feel that the annual Newent bash suffices perfectly - and it's only just over an hour's drive away for us South Walians!
However, if Big Yin wants to give it a go, then I'd be very happy to support his quest, all being well of course.
I'd suggest going for a one day meet to test the water initially.
Point to note: I was the only South Walian member to attend Newent 2011 :o
Good luck :y

I haven't apologised to you for that yet Seth, I'm really sorry for that - I had my deposit down and day off booked and then work decided that I could either have a Saturday off when my daughter was due a small op, or Newent - not both >:(
I was really gutted, so once again, apologies
Jon

No need to dear boy! ;)
Given your circumstances, you quite rightly had to prioritise. Hope the little princess is now in fine fettle! :y
-
Surely the Newent meet can't be very far for those living in South Wales ;)
-
Surely the Newent meet can't be very far for those living in South Wales ;)
Exactly Pete - it takes us just over 90 minutes to get to Newent with the caravan in tow! ;)
However, as I stated in Reply 17, the OP's idea is certainly worthy of support - and I'd be happy to lend such :y
-
the newent meet was at the wrong time for me as i was away with the van on those dates
-
i know of quiet a few just some dont use the oof very often only now and again
-
i had a look at some places even found a guy with a burger van for tea and coffee +food he is cheap as well so lets see who is intrested
-
Get some dates posted up then Ralf :y

who is up for a day meet in a carpark some where in south wales
-
who is up for a day meet in a carpark some where in south wales
I am, I think it's a good place to start, we'll just get our cars together, have a bit of food and drink and a good chat, and if it's a success it could lead to a cambelt meet or similar. Let's keep it small and simple to start with though :y

Be nice to have it soon, on a Sunday in a car park somewhere, any suggestions? A burger tan would be nice in the cold or in a country pub so we could sit inside for a bit. I've only met a couple of people off the forum as well, I'd like to put a few faces to names.
Not many of us in Wales though, we need a few members to make it happen
-
no it aint that many i will be taking my car off the road in a week or so, just so i can do few bits ready 4 the shows next summer. :y :y :y
-
I know a man ........ who just happens to run an establishment that does superb Sunday lunches for well under a tenner all-in ;)
Anyone want me to have a word with him?
There's several suitable car parks in the locality too, come to think of it. Good access from all main routes too!
Spud: Where are you located, mate?
-
Just a thought that if you made it towards Cardiff way you may get some nipping over the bridge od down from the M50 to join in...... :y
-
Depending on when it is I would be up for it, could always get a few from the south west as well
-

Yes, let's do it, even if not everybody's not willing/able to come, it'll still be worth doing for a few hours, perhaps we could discuss where to hold a bigger meet next time then eh?
-
What about if I can sort something here? .......

Yep, that'll be tidy :y
Think I've been mountain biking round there somewhere :)
-
Okay then, what d'ya reckon on bringing the wives and kids?
Or do we make it a 'men only' sort of gathering?
Saturday or Sunday?
Sunday seems to be the most popular choice - thoughts welcomed though! ;)
-
Don't know about ant of the rest of you, but my missus has absolutely zero interest in cars or the forum so I'd spare her this time. I've never been to a meet either though, so when I've been once, I'll persuade her next time :)
Sunday would be easiest for me tbh
-
Point taken Johnny!
I'll pop over to the museum in the morning, and report back ASAP.
Will also have a word with 'the man' regarding some food too.
We could also incorporate a convoy up to the spectacular Bwlch summit for some excellent photographic opportunities overlooking the Rhondda valley. Food for thought .......... ?
Oh, and mountain biking: The Afan Forest Park is a world-renowned venue - that's official! ;)
Watch this space! :y
-

Yeah, that'd be good, stopped there a few times :y

It certainly is - been there a few times now, fantastic place :y
Cheers Byron
-
Sundays are more likely to suit me as well, as I only work 1 in 8 and that is next Sunday :D
-
what about big pit that may be better for any one from midlands to find and by the way i will bring my wife
-
Sunday seems to be the best day for a meet-up ............ yes? :-\
Just checked my diary, and I'm presently free on Sunday 4 December, though appreciate that others may not be available on this date.
What's everyone's feelings on this point?
Before finalising a venue, what's the concensus among members regarding the proceedings on the day?
Maybe a purely 'social' get-together, with hot drinks and a bite to eat, a few photos etc - a sort of 'keep it simple to test the water' affair possibly?
Again, comments welcomed! ::)
-
I'm free on 4th December, I think a social get-together for a few hours with hot food and perhaps a beer or half would be great as a starting point. There aren't many of us in Wales so it'd be great if we could get as many of us as we could together. I'm easy as regards venue, anywhere in south Wales is doable for me :)
-
thats ok by me just no beer not even one coke or coffee for me
-
just keep it simple for now and see how many turn up
-
What about somewhere in central South Wales, say in the Bridgend area? :-\
I've got somewhere in mind that's near to J36 on the M4!
Comments .......... ? ;)
-
4th is good for me as long as its reasonably local i am happy to travel. :y
-

I can do that :y
-
are you talking about sarn services you are going towards west wales not south wales
-
are you talking about sarn services you are going towards west wales not south wales
J36 is for Sarn Services, yes ........ though I've got somewhere else nearby in mind, and am awaiting confirmation at this point ::)
If this venue is unavailable, then I've also got suitable alternative possibilities pencilled-in too, and once it's finalised will post-up details and a 'confirmed list' ;)
Whatever the venue and judging by the replies, Sunday 4 December is the day! :y
-
well i wont go that far its to far for me i did suggest the big pit museum but got no answer
-
why dont you put up a poll to see for the date
-
the dates coming up the 4th of december is going to be best for me due to othe commitments. If you want to create a poll you can set one up bigyin but my dates are somewhat limited as i work shifts.
Where in south wales are you?
At the moment there has been only a couple who have shown interest in the meet and with the time of year the weather could change very quickly and none of would be able to get anywhere if it is like last winter.
It may be worth looking at a mini meet for now and look at a larger one for next year when the weather improves maybe april, may or june time
-
i agree with that comment we was snowed in last year it depends on the weather as i live on a mountain and if we get a bit off snow all traffic stops
-
i live on the top end off the rhymney valley thats why i said it a bit far for me we used to go to porthcawl with the caravan thats why i know that area

I'm in the same situation, and agree that a mini-meet is sensibly the way forward here, all things considered.
If anyone wishes to post a Poll, then they're free to do so of course.
Still, there's three weeks to go, so maybe other members will declare an interest in the interim. ;)
-
have we decided where yet to me we havent
-
have we decided where yet to me we havent
Ralf, this is a possibility, as posted previously - http://www.southwalesminersmuseum.co.uk/about%20the%20museum.html
What do you think?
Jon
PS What does anyone else think?
-
i did say about big pit but nobody took any notice
-
Big pit would be a bit too far out for myself especially with it being a small meet and you also have to request permission to use the parking area.
The miners museum would be fine, I believe Seth had made contact there to see about use of the Car park.
-
i sent a request to big pit and they said it be no probs
-
have we made up our minds yet were we are going
-
so where are we going then
-
what about asda car park in merthyr if no one can come up with anything
-
so we dont know where we are going just got the date but not where well thats good not
-
well where is the meet on the 4 dec nobody knows it not on here

-

-
Yup I am all set!!
-
its ok for you .you havent got far to go
-
Its the same distance for me to get there as it is for you
edit: I stand corrected its a bit further out for you but then Dan is coming in from Dudley
-
no it isnt its to far for me and others thats dans choice if he wants to travel that far
-
swansea to port talbot not that far
-
I say Swansea but I am a bit further out but its almost the same distance for Jonny and Seth as yourself. Dan is heading in from Dudley too.
-
Im only 5 mins from junction 2 M5 so its a fair distance but should only be about an hour and half max :y
-
Still up for this. Down in my diary :y
Great stuff - a saloon! ;D
Be good to meet you Dan
-
Aye it was to be an estate meet prior to that :D

-
'Confirmed list' now updated as per: http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=96047.0
Thanks for the encouraging early response fellas! :y
-
i am glad my idea worked and i hope you all have fun on the 4 th of dec
-
Is there something so detestable about the Rhymney Valley that nobody wants to go near it,it's the same with the media,
any WELSH NEWS is always about Rhondda or Swansea valleys,Rhymney valley is always avoided
-
i am glad my idea worked and i hope you all have fun on the 4 th of dec
The idea was a good one and its a shame you can't make it, hopefully this will lead to another and you will be able to make that one
-

If you look at the geographical spread of our modest membership in South Wales, it's quite understandable why the chosen venue rapidly gained acceptance.
I can't find any reference to a suitable Rhymney Valley venue within this thread, and certainly have no issues with this area - a goodly number of my colleagues live and work there. I simply can't see a correllation between your comments and the chosen venue.
:o
-
well i can i had somewhere to go put no one took any notice so like i said i wont bother again i had more than one place but never mind
-
and you tell me how many accepted and i can tell you now only 3 thats all
-
If someone ever organised a meet in mid Wales somewhere eg Welshpool, Newtown i would imagine there would be more response as we'd get members from the midlands and beyond... Oh by the way im down in Cardiff a week Saturday for the Wales V Astralia rugby :y
-
and you tell me how many accepted and i can tell you now only 3 thats all
I suggest you check again....
-
I would have gone anywhere in South Wales for the meet, including anywhere in the Rhymney valleys, I know plenty of people around there and have loads of family all over there, but only Seth was prepared to bite the bullet and actually take the time to put a venue forward and then discuss it with the venue to prepare them and inform the OOF members about the facilities and prices.
The comments about being too far for anyone in South Wales are pretty lame really, it's smack in the middle ::)
I've even offered to pick up one member on the day and bring him to the meet at my expense, which was flatly turned down :-\
So thank you Seth, look forward to meeting you and everyone else at the meet
Jon

I'd be up for that, and apologies to those members, but we wanted to keep this one simple for now, and discuss the next one at the meet. It'd be good to meet up one day though :y
-
There were a number of venues suggested but yet again overruled by "higher management"
-
There were a number of venues suggested but yet again overruled by "higher management"
Why don't you come to this one then Derek?
-
There were a number of venues suggested but yet again overruled by "higher management"
What? ???
If people had voted for it and said yes it would have been there, no "higher management" deciding venue, its chosen by the people who want to go!
-
well i wont ask for a meet again so forget it now leave it there i did suggest a place but you all said no it is to far so dont say i didnt
-
get your facts straight tunnie i started it but was ignored wenn i said it was to far for me
-
well i wont ask for a meet again so forget it now leave it there i did suggest a place but you all said no it is to far so dont say i didnt
well you wanted some of us to travel the distance you won't drive yourself plus a further 15 miles on top so expecting others to drive further out is a bit unfair I think.
Lifts were also offered as well to get you to the exisiting meet which you turned down.
-
what have you got to drive 20 mins tops that is why you agreed to that meet
-
lifts are out as i said to jonny i wanted to go in my own car as i said to jonny and he agreed with me
-
Yes the current meet suits me better but you missed my point:
You won't drive to where the current meet is as it is too far.
You want myself (and others) to drive past where you live to meet a further 15 miles on top of what you yourself won't drive.
-
its notthing to do with that like i said south not south west and i have been to the museum why go somewere i have been and didnt like
-
its notthing to do with that like i said south not south west and i have been to the museum why go somewere i have been and didnt like
I could say the same about the big pit....
The whole point of the meet is not the tourist attraction, its to meet with other people with a similar interest
-
and i wanted to go to the newend meet but i was away so dont say i dont want to travel any distants
-
so i go somewhere i dont like no way done it ones and didnt like it yuk
-
and i wanted to go to the newend meet but i was away so dont say i dont want to travel any distants
when Sarn was mentioned
well i wont go that far its to far for me i did suggest the big pit museum but got no answer
Anyway it is sorted now and its only a day meet to test the water, the next one may be a better location for you
-
get your facts straight tunnie i started it but was ignored wenn i said it was to far for me
Where did that come from? ??? ???
I replied to this:
There were a number of venues suggested but yet again overruled by "higher management"
What? ???
If people had voted for it and said yes it would have been there, no "higher management" deciding venue, its chosen by the people who want to go!
Its very hard to establish a meet, quite a few have tried before. Had 20 people say yes, but over the time people drop off, and its just a couple of people in the end, sometimes they just fizzle out.
A location has to be chosen which appears suitable for most, one place might be suitable for one person, but not for everyone.
Looks like a location has been picked, once you get one or two meets done, you can think of other locations. But you may have to go somewhere you are not used to help establish a meet.
You also might have to go somewhere "you have been before" ::)
-
and who is going to start to ask for the next one not me and by the way distance dont do anything for me i travel 500 miles for a footy match
-
and who is going to start to ask for the next one not me and by the way distance dont do anything for me i travel 500 miles for a footy match
Now thats just rather mental Ralf. :o ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
i told you that because i go past your place albert on the way to harwich
-
and who is going to start to ask for the next one not me and by the way distance dont do anything for me i travel 500 miles for a footy match
Now thats just rather mental Ralf. :o ;D ;D ;D ;D
Do they not have TV's in Wales? ;D
So hang on you won't drive (how ever many miles it was, 100 say?) to a meet, but will drive 500 for football match? ::)
-
and who is going to start to ask for the next one not me and by the way distance dont do anything for me i travel 500 miles for a footy match
Attending the meet would be a short trip up the road then Ralf :y :D
-
like i said i dont go anywere i dont like and i like football
-
like i said i dont go anywere i dont like and i like football
If enough turn up for the meet you can have a game :y ;D
-
i told you that because i go past your place albert on the way to harwich
Who plays football in Harwich Ralf ? :-\
-
like i said i dont go anywere i dont like and i like football

It seems that we've already got enough for one seven-a-side team! ;D
See: http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=96047.0
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
i get on the ferry albert to get to dortmund
-
Who plays football in Dortmund then ? :D ;D
(Is it obvious I know nothing asbout football ?) ::)
-
Who plays football in Dortmund then ? :D ;D
Wasn't it Swansea City? ::)
-
dont you swear at me wont take that word in my mouth bluebirds and i did say i like football not what swansea play yuk
-
Right, this thread is getting a bit long-winded and boring now, what a load of crap over a simple meet >:(
Bigyin's pissed off because he brought up the subject of a Wales meet, took a bit long over it so Seth took over with a suggestion of his own, and now he won't go because of nothing more than sour grapes. The subject of distance is not even the issue.
WE GET IT, can we stop going on about it now?
I've been polite to everyone concerned so far, I've met Bigyin and actually thought he was an OK fella but all this childish bickering is getting right on my tits now, and won't bother replying to stupid PM's - I really have got much, much better things to do with my time. I'm going to the meet, and I'll enjoy it knowing that I've done my bit regarding inclusion of everyone, despite advice not to bother.
Can we grow up and become the adults that we all are again please?

Judging by the encouraging response thus far, there could well be a modest Welsh male voice choir serenading your goodself into The Valleys my good man.
The very best Valleys hospitality will be the order of the day! :y

Well OK - no, you didn't actually turn me down flat, you just completely ignored what I had said and just ranted on about not wanting to go actually, you didn't say anything about wanting to go in your own car. I've been on this forum a while now, I think most people on here know me well enough to know I'm not a bull*****er
I've still got all your PM's and could quote them all if you really want to go on about who said what, but I'm getting sick of all this childishness. Like I said, we're all grown ups now, let's start acting our age eh?
You don't want to go to the meet, we all know this and the reasons why, so let's just leave it now, yes?
Jon

Just read all this....please get it back on track without bitchiness :y
From experience, the only location advice is : ensure cafe and toilets close by.
Touristy stuff unimportant, unless planning a group trip round somewhere..
You all just park up in a location somewhere and have a natter.
Organisation : you all have a common goal, meet up and have a yack.
Polls work very well for meets, group decision on venue and dates (see chester meet thread for this in practise.)
Thanks all.

giving this a nudge to see if there is any more interest

Looks as if we might be getting a bit of typical Welsh weather on Sunday lads ;)
