Much MUCH smoother changing through the gears, both up and down - lots more 'go' in the lower revs... thats what I got - but only after also changing the autobox fluid and flushing the filter through with lots of parafin (was cheaper than paying £60  :o for a new filter..)

Ideally i'd love to keep texisting bose system but im having nothing but greif with the cd player. i bought a second hand one off ebay(i know i know) and that has the same fault.(no disc message)

The annoying thing is sometimes it does work but more often that not it doesnt and im fed up with the same old rubbish the radio stations play

If i could get the cdc2 working properly i wouldnt change any of the bose system

Just dont know where to take it to get it fixed(if it can be)

Is it definintely buggered and not just dirty?  Tried a lense cleaner? (Sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs here, not intended!)

Would the bose door speakers run off of this with an amp? i would buy an amp and subwoofer for bass
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/07-NEW-Alpine-CDE-9881-CD-MP3-PLAYER-CAR-STEREO-9881RB_W0QQitemZ260106912032QQihZ016QQcategoryZ39755QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I have a feeling the bose door speakers are the same as the standard speakers, however I suspect they're wired up differently, i.e. through the existing bose amplifier (in the boot somewhere?) ...

I had a Bose system in a Nissan Murano - thought it was useless personally, never had a better stereos than when I fit aftermarket head unit, amp, sub + custom speakers usually..

*IF* it was me, I'd be pulling the bose stuff out, although as with anything, I doubt its that easy!!

Wheel alignment is a waste of time and money if the operator doesn't understand the numbers he's getting from the machine.

My wife got conned into having her "tracking" checked at a well known high street tyre outfit and was told both sides were "miles out". Next time I drove the car the steering wheel was at about 20 degrees from the straight ahead position when running straight. I looked at the report and the guy had wound about 30 minutes on one side and about 30 minutes off the other. So the total toe hadn't been changed at all, just the steering wheel position! Took it back and complained and I watched him adjust it again without bracing the steering wheel in the straight ahead position. Just got a blank look when I pointed out his mistake. If the guy doesn't understand the effect of the steering wheel on front toe he shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a car.

In contrast, got the Omega checked at a decent place the other day and the chap was very helpful. He pointed out that my camber was within limits but in his opinion the limits were a bit wide and that it might be advisable for me to bring it back and have that properly set.

I've got -1.89 on the left and -2.07 on the right at the moment. Doesn't seem to be pulling to the left despite this but he said I might get shoulder wear with that much camber. What's the collective wisdom on this?

Limits were -0.92 to -2.42.

Kevin

Where is this place Kevin, I'm not a million miles from you and wouldn't have a clue where to take it around here..

Cheers,

Chris.

Is yours an auto?  Not something to do with needing to be in park, or some kind of lock is it?

No, I've got driver involvement pack on mine ;)

Omega General Help / Re: Glovebox is broke

Hi,

Mine is a pre facelift model, I can still open the glovebox by pulling one side out then the other, I need to know how to get the lock assembly out to fix it.

Cheers,
Iain

This is the first job I ever did on mine, you can push the side bits in that catch to the glove box to hold it in, undo a couple of screws and pull the felt tray up enough to get the old mechanism out..

If you want to change the locking barrell into the new lock you get, be VERY careful as you pull it out, otherwise the locking bits and springs fly out everywhere, and it takes a long time to get them back in again!

Can be done, just be careful!!

I'm not really asleep, honest.. not only are kit cars taking over my life, but now we've put a pool in the back garden (as well as an omega  :-?)

I have what you want mahony, obviously they're still on the car at the mo. PM me an offer and whether you'd want it posted or if you'll pick it up..

Cheers,

Chris.

Omega General Help / Re: 2.2 Dti Cutting out

Hi all i was hoping someone can point me in the right direction:

my car is an Omega 2.2DTi on a 51 plate.

(also posted on VXON...)

just as im preparing to sell the old girl she decided to make her feelings felt!

i was going to the airport yesterday to drop my brother off and on the way down i could feel the car skipping a beat but very faintly... i could notice but my bro didnt until we were travelling at lower speed then there was a definate jerk (power cuts out)... no EML at this point. there was a slight puff of smoke i noticed but this could be unburnt diesel.

anyway i got to the airport had a peek around the engine bay and all seemed well (couldnt see any pipes loose; fluids ok...etc). the only thing i had done prior to this problem was put some diesel in her but now im thinking perhaps i put petrol in instead? at the airport i filled her up with diesel so i would say i had in the tank £50 diesel & £10 suspected petrol???

on the way back the stuttering/cutting out was more frequent; i noticed that when you put your foot down hard (but not very hard) it did it more often. when i got close to home i put the car in 4th gear to see if it would rev up. when it got to 4k revs the EML light would come on and the car would power down (like there was no accelerator being applied). then the EML would go out. i only did this once.

any one had similar probs or shed any light on the issue?

all advise IMMENSLEY appreciated...

oh; i have washed the engine but that was a week ago and i have done around 50-60 miles since then with no probs...

I'd have expected petrol to conk it out completely, as was the case when my housemate filled his pickup up with 50 quids worth of unleaded instead of diesal - we had to drain the entire fuel system, refilled with diesal and it was fine..

If you washed the engine, did you jetwash it, and if yes did you cover electrical components?  It may not be immediately apparent after washing, until corrosion starts on some of the insides of electrical components - then it starts to all go wrong.

I'm not sure if you can on the diesal, but you need to read the fault codes out - on earlier models theres a paperclip short you can do so you can do it yourself rather than pay a dealer.  Someone else here should be able to confirm you..

Omega General Help / Re: dull knocking noise from rear
« on: 11 May 2007, 15:20:12 »
I don't know if this would be it, but has one of your rear coil springs broken up?  Changing the shocks might have exerted some new forces on one or both of them and caused one to break, might explain the knocking and they are prone to breaking on the Omega..

Omega General Help / Re: Auto Transmission Problem
« on: 11 May 2007, 14:24:53 »
Have you had any problems with the autobox before this?

I would still say your first port of call on an autobox, before throwing in the towel and taking it somewhere would be to get the car up, get the sumps (2) off, clean / change the filter, and renew the autobox fluid - if you clean the filter rather than replacing its a nice cheap thing to do that often eliminates a lot of autobox probs..

I hope its not too bad  :-/

Omega General Help / Re: Squeeking wipers

You know what I mean.

Is there any solution (gunk to go in screenwash?) or does it just mean time for new rubber?

Also on wipers - I have 2 estates - the rear wipers are cr@p on both - its like the spring doesn't hold them firmly enough onto the glass.   Is there a replacable part in there or should I just trying lubing it up as best as possible?

Cheers,

Ian

You been waxing the windscreen again Ian ;)  :P

When I got my Omega both the wipers were passenger ones!  They didn't squeek, more kind of bounced accross the windscreen  :o

The set I then got from halfords didn't fit!! Useless, but I managed to get the old clips on the new wipers so all sorted, no more squeeking or bouncing :y

If you want, you can have the one off the gls you're getting the front shocks off of when you come down in a week or so.. I don't want much for it, just make me an offer in the usual way!

Cheers,

Chris.

If you look down between the engine and the inner wing on the passenger side, approximately as far back as the suspension turret, you'll see a box with some brake lines emerging from the top.

Kevin

Thanks Kevin :y
