Omega General Help / diff seal
« on: 18 March 2009, 19:56:08 »
Do we have a part number to do this?

Mine could realy do to be done .... sooner I think, rather than later. My half shafts are going to rust.  ::) :y :y

Can I assume that all years are the same? When I looked at the same job on my Senator Vauxhall had modified the original set up. :-?

My Omega is fitted with a sensor of the same part number as above. Anyone any opinions of what & who to buy or not buy? It's going to live in the boot ...... as a spare! :y  :y

Omega General Help / Air/Con continued ......
« on: 05 November 2008, 14:10:46 »
http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1225221951/all

Right then. I've had the new compressor fitted but ............ there's a huge leak on the high pressure filling point  :'(. I've now got a lurid green PAG oil coloured engine bay. It's on the lines of a tyre/schrader valve but with a ball sealing against an 'O' ring. To me, and looking at the EPC at the dealers, it looks like the valve should unscrew, however .....  :( the air cond fitter says not. :-/ Who's had any experience of the fittings?
A trip to the scrappies proved fruitless. :'(  ;)  ;)

Omega General Help / A/C compressor leak
« on: 28 October 2008, 19:25:51 »
Who's ever had a new compressor fitted to their car? I had my car re-gassed about a year ago. All fine till it ran out of gas 6 or 7 months later. I took it back and he topped it back up again, but unfortunately I never ever got a round to giving him the chance to look for the leak again.
So I got another fim to re-gas & add dye to it last Wed. My gas had gone again by Saturday. :-? So the firm turned up today to look for my gas/dye & he has condemned the compressor, leaking shaft seal. The replacemnt quote from this firm (via A N Other firm) is £240 +vat plus a couple of hour labour if I get him to get his spanners out - no further charge for gas whether he or I change it.
Opinions on cost would be most welcome.

I'm NOT going to go the 2nd hand route as you can never tell the state of what you're getting, as new as the donor car might be.

Omega General Help / 2.0 mpg?
« on: 02 September 2008, 08:09:45 »
A lad at work is considering buying a 4 pot 2.0 and asked me about fuel consumption.  :-?
Any pointers at to what they do 'around town' please?
TIA

Omega General Help / geometry check II
« on: 01 September 2008, 16:11:36 »
Since my previous post clicky
I've now returned from holiday having done around 1500 miles on various types of road.
Does anyone have any comment on whether they think my 'tracking' is correct. The car doesn't seem very sure footed and to me has a feeling of being vague & wandering. It could just be me being used to the car having had a general pull to the kerb before hand, combined with 2 front tyres that are border line - but legal - on the inside edges.  :-[

Omega General Help / water pump
« on: 12 August 2008, 15:07:58 »
Having hi-jacked the petrol fumes in the coolant I'm starting my own thread. ;)
Having looked at the new V6 water pump in the box I can see that it's sealed to the front of the block with just an 'O'ring.
Q. Do I trust just the 'O' ring or do I use a smidgen of silicon type flange sealant too?
I'd obviously erased from my memory what a PITA it is to get to the front of the block, from when I did the cam belt.  :-?

Omega General Help / geometry check
« on: 13 August 2008, 12:05:24 »
I took my car to Drury Ln this morning - hence the need to rebuild my water pump last night.
the most noticablemeasurement that was out of spec was the FNS toe was -0deg19min instead of zero to +0deg10min the FOS was smack in the middle.
I'm now at +8mins and +10mins

It does seem to feel a bit better .... might be psychological though! I know there's a fancy machine to pay for but at the best part of £100 it seemed like an expensive 'tracking' to me though.

Omega General Help / Immovable car
« on: 06 August 2008, 19:26:44 »
I've had this happen once before, but it's just happened again. My auto Omega is often stationary for a couple of weeks at a time, but I used it OK this week end for 150 miles, however when I got in the car earlier, it started up fine, I engaged R to reverse of the drive but it wouldn't move at all. :-? I gave it a few more revs, but all that happened was, that the back of the car lifted slightly but still no movement backwards. I put it in D, moved forward a foot or so & then tried reverse again. All was OK again!  :-/ :-?
Any suggestions?

Omega General Help / towbar electrics
« on: 26 July 2008, 12:49:44 »
When ever people have asked about wiring their towbar electrics I've always said that there's a square-ish socket in the boot with a blue/red (rear fog lights) bridging wire plugged in.
I've just returned form the scrap yard with a driver's door window - not the easiest thing to do when you can only open the door enough to just squeeze into the car - and in preparation for rewiring my car with a 13 pin socket ie remove what I've already got fitted, I looked for this socket so I could replace my 12N wiring loom with the original plug complete with blue/red bridging wire.
After looking in the boot of 2 saloons I've now come to the conclusion that it's either not fitted to all cars or it's fitted else where.  :-?  :-/

Omega General Help / sunroof
« on: 22 July 2008, 21:25:40 »
Of all the people with a scabbly alloy(?) frame around your sunroof, has anyone actually done owt with it?  :-/
Having spent half of yesterday afternoon washing, claying (for the first time ever on any car) polishing & then waxing it, (my shoulder is sore now! :'() it now makes the frame look 'orrible! :(
I don't particularly want to take all the roof assembly out though.  :-/

Omega General Help / air-con evaporator
« on: 18 July 2008, 00:30:39 »
Picked my car up today from the A/C garage. After the refill at the end of last year/beginning of this year has escaped he re-refilled it yesterday but unfortunately couldn't find the escaping gas/dye. Obviously there's a reasonable amount of cowling etc infront of the condensor that could have hid the dye, but I'm wondering if my problem is the evaporator.
Hands up all those who have actually seen the evap! I assume that it's burried under the dash along with the heater matrix & will involve dismantling the car to componant level to remove/place it it is indeed fubar'd.
I'm still hoping that it's the condensor as that's about the easiest to get at. :-/

Omega General Help / I need more R134a
« on: 06 July 2008, 21:01:36 »
 ...... again! :(
So .... where are the usual suspect areas for a loss of refrigerant? Condensor? Pipework? Compressor? I know it's a bit like asking, how long is a piece of string, but are there any recurring problem areas. I had my car re-gassed at the end of last year, and as recent as last month all was cold in my car. Yesterday though, when the weather was particularly 'changeable' I realised that there wasn't a lot of ice cold air in the car and the accumulator(?) under the bonnet, wasn't at all cold.  :(
It's going back to the bloke that topped it up last time, but anyone's experience would be handy.  :y
