Omega General Help / Re: 2.6 metallic "clink" sound on start up
« on: 15 February 2023, 12:51:58 »
Cool, thanks for all the replies, I think now that I'm feeling this rubbing from the cover, it be worth investigating the TB. I don't think I could rest until I had tbh. Won't be doing it right now as car still in Winter mode but will get to it in the next Month or so and see what's what.

Luckily I heard the sound it was only for a few secs, you wouldn't hear it unless you were standing at the engine bay right after start up.

So bit of an update, but not really positively identifed the issue. I decided to take the aux belt off and check/spin the pulleys before it started, nothing that I could feel or hear wrong, apart from that slight play in the tensioner pulley.

Then started it up without the belt first to see if I could hear anything, nothing, then put belt back on to see if the noise came back, it didn't. I was half expecting it to, but then thought maybe playing about with the tensioner moved something in it, if it is that at fault.

After that I noticed a sort of low dull repeated scraping from what sounded like behind the belt cover, and when I put my hand on it, I could feel this dull repeating scraping sound.

So, not got to the source of the original problem, but now got another, and it sounds deeper this time! Need to do a bit more digging.

Seen a few posts through car forums that people are getting certificates of conformity from the manufacturer for the ULEZ thing, I don't really get what they mean though, as is the ULEZ not saying your car has to meet euro 6, or is it euro 4 emissions levels for petrol, which is what they test at MOT, so what difference is a certificate of conformity going to make?

On my 2008 2.2 TDCi the fuel filter is at the front o/s and as you say is a plastic container thingy.  :y

I always fill the new filter with diesel before fitting and then it will start and self bleed.  :)

That's what I was suspecting thanks, that it is up front rather than underneath.

For scam/phising emails, the email marketing software knows you've interacted with an email so I just hover over the sender to see if it's cloaked email adress, then if it is just leave it without opening it or moving it to spam, after a couple of weeks just delete it, by that times the spammer will have moved to a new campaign of spamming people, as they continually create new sender email addresses to spam from.

General Car Chat / 2012 mundano oil and fuel filter change
« on: 06 February 2023, 13:52:20 »
Hi All

Got an oil and filter change to do on a mate's mondeo diesel and had a look at it the other day noticed you need a 27mm shallow socket to get the top of the oil filter cover off, the oil filter is a paper filter insert, and is situated on the front of the block, slighty to the left of the downpipe as you look at the front of the car, could get a 1/2" socket on it but not with ratchet on it as well. I think it needs to be 3/4" drive as it's a bit of a tight fit for a 1/2" ratchet.

Not had a look at the fuel filter yet, watched a video on the tube about this and it seems the filter is under the back near the tank, and you have to manually bleed the feed to the pump once you've changed it (There's no primer apparently - who designed that  :o). However looking at his it looks like there is some sort of filter container thing on drivers side just under the big plastic cover on the engine.

Anyone know for certain if the filter is indeed at the back or can it be in the engine bay in these as well depending on year/model etc?

Thanks

G

Omega General Help / Re: Barn find starts but then stops

Hi Dave

Where does that fitment on the end of the pipe go or does that come off, is there a push on clip on the in tank pipe or is i tjubillee clips or those spring clips?

Had a look on the parts diagram and it doesn't show any type of clips I can see.

The pipe doesn't come with the black plastic fitting shown on the ebay listing  ;)
both ends of the pipe have about 30mm of strait (NOT Convoluted) pipe ,1 x 9mm ID ,1 x 8mm ID
the rest of the pipe is convoluted /corrugated ,making it very flexible .
you need to gently heat (boiling water is OK, NOT a naked flame  >:D) the pipe to get it to slide on the pump and outlet .
standard fuel line clips to secure in place  :y

this pipe is a great "off the shelf solution "  ;)

Thanks, I've just got one as it will be a good piece of kit to have whenever I change that pipe, which I will do probably sooner rather than later.

The reason for the "Protec Fuel Systems Convoluted In Tank Fuel Hose - 8/9mm Ends / 280mm Long" in my link is because the original in tank hose is shaped with tight curves ,which is difficult to achieve with off the shelf hose in such a tight space  :y

You need to spin the pulley by hand BEFORE you start it.

Ok, will do that first.
