General Car Chat / Re: Windscreen Repair
« on: 14 May 2023, 12:06:43 »
Just checked my AA insurance documents and Windscreen cover is "Unlimited, subject to a £75 excess".

Can you claim on your insurance LC0112G for a new windscreen, rather than repair or have you no insurance to cover it?

 ???

Tesla self drive cars in the USA have a problem apparently:

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2023/feb/16/tesla-recall-full-self-driving-cars

I think there is still a lot of work to do before we have them in the UK ;)

Its marketed as self driving but, it isn't, its a level 2.5, at a push level 3 so is little more than adaptive cruise plus lane keep assist, some have the option to work under remote control to get them in/out of parking spots to.   :y

We do have prototypes in the UK running around, for me though, I buy a nice car because I like driving so the ADAS features are of little interest.

That I believe is the crucial factor for most of us, at least on OOF, as we do LOVE driving as then we remain independent, able to freely go (almost) where we want to, and just get out in the world, not trapped at home relying on public transport, heaven forbid! :o :o :D ;)

General Car Chat / Re: Shifty Garage and Small Claims Court
« on: 29 March 2023, 12:50:43 »
Yes James, these rouge garages are still out there that is for sure.  Even my favourite, “trusted” garages can let me down and try it on, but fortunately not do what yours did and actually do the job. 3 years ago they did my MOT ( I often used to alternate between my Vx dealer and them). They advised that the brake pipes were severely corroded. I did not believe it, so would not authorise the work.

As soon as possible I got under my car, checked all the pipes, could not see any “severe corrosion” so just cleaned them all up and sprayed them with a protector.  Next year went back to Vx for my MOT; full pass and no advisories.  Nor has there been since about any pipe corrosion!

So, yes, like with Kwikfittup, there are certainly those trying to create business!

All the best with your claim James.  I know you understand the law, but just one point you didn’t cover.  Have you served them with a letter of legal intent, with a specified period for a response?  In civil law that is a requirement, and in my experience has always brought me the results I demanded before we had to go to court.  Last time £950+ back from my Vx dealer for a faulty “out of warranty” a/c compressor.

All the best :y :y

Maybe they will also bring back Bodie and Doyle, The Professionals! :-* :-* :-* :-* :y :y

My eldest son is named after Lewis Collins; I loved him! :-* :-* ;D ;D ;)

As for the Capri..... ::) ::) :P
.

They seemed great programmes back then Lizzie,I also enjoyed the Sweeney but watching them now they seem pretty poor in the acting department.

Yep, but the 1970’s was a naff decade anyway, so like the cars and the country we just accepted the tosh.  Mind you, it now seems The Sweeney was spot on about the flying squad, but without the corruption! ::) ;D ;D ;)

Omega General Help / Re: Rear window blinds
« on: 28 February 2023, 19:57:57 »
  Hi all,
question on the above.
As I had an estate, I cant answer it for one of our club members
Do they require any guides/rails to raise?
Is the wiring usually there already?
He has an Irmsher version and its the only bit that the car does not have
Thanks in advance for any replies

The unit itself has its own folding rail system that aids the blind to rise or when lowered.

My 3.2 Elite did not have a blind fitted, but when I fitted one a there was the necessary wiring and plug already built in so I was able to just connect the blind to it.  Likewise with the dash panel.  There was a blank fitted to where the blind switch is normally fitted, but once removed there was the necessary wiring behind it for the blind switch.

Hope that will help. ;)

I have half an eye on a ULEZ compliant one, but not sure that I can face owning another Omega, as capable as they are.

This is a big consideration when looking for a new car, as ULEZ or Clean Air Zones will spread around the country like a plague.  ::)  :(

Not just Britain, all over Europe for those of you adventurous enough. We already have to be careful . All towns in Spain over 50,000 people have to have a scheme in place by end of 2023. The schemes aren’t even uniform over Europe. I need to get a sticker - only 6 euros. Yet another nail in the going gone golden age of motoring!

Yes indeed, owning and driving an electric car will be a completely different experience which at my age will be for the young, not me unless my Omega and me is defeated by rust!! :'( :'( :(

Congratulations Lizzie, I would spend a bit of cash having the advisories repaired properly and enjoy a bit more time with a lovely vehicle, I regret to this day selling mine pound for pound it was the best value car that I've ever owned.

Thanks Rangie :y

Yes, I intend to get the professionals on this so the repair / replacement is up to a good standard.  If the cost is prohibitive, then I will just do the best I can do with a DIY repair to get another year or three out of her.  But with so little else wrong with my car it is still worth spending some cash up to a point to make her last as long as possible.  Yes, I love my Omega and it is the best car I have ever owned.  When she goes I will be upset :'( :'( :'(

You're such a cheerful sod!  ;D

He is ;D ;D

Yes, thanks Sir Tigger.  All I care about is I’ve got the car baring any misfortunes for another year.
I will in any case take it to an excellent body shop near me and get an expert opinion.  The MOT tester treated it as a minor advisory, that eventually should be dealt with.  It’s been like that for three years, so I am not panicking! What will be will be.  It is only a car. ;)

Surely the subframe needs dropping and the steering box/idler bracket to ensure full assessment and appropriate treatment behind the attachments.

And any repairing of the front lower crossmember would surely be much more comprehensive with the front bumper and cooling pack removed.

The small areas affected on mine are very accessible from under the vehicle. :)
