Very likely to be a plod machine! 3.2 I expect!?! Seriously, the latest registered cars I have seen are '54 cars. Anybody on here got a late registered motor?

Sound like a good buy for some one. Bruce mentioned that he thought that Grampian Plitzie had some un-reg in storage. £.2 auto's I seem to remember. :o

Fast as in, for a diesel! There's a 3.0V6 Diesel, and the 150hp 1.9 is pretty pokey (at least it is in an astra!) !?! Surely  :-?

We do have a few of them, they are not brilliant, use much more fuel than the omega and break down a lot more often clutches go and they tramline badly in first and second.
the VXR is much better in terms of performance and roadholding but when driven hard they warp manifolds and you cannot get the parts for them. my car was off the road for almost 2 months waiting for the bits!
and the 3.0 diesel is bloody awful! good for caravaning not much use catching the baddies
a new diesel is due apparently thank god

The problem with Vectras is that they've got bloody awful handling, I've been on passenger ferries that can turn quicker.

Clarkson summed it up perfectly when test driving the 2.7 turbo versions -- "I don't know why they fit a steering wheel to this thing, it doesn't do anything!".

Hideous car IMO, I wouldn't mind a 4-door Vectra B GSi as a runaround as they're quite cheap and look pretty decent, but the Vectra C is just a joke of a car that's also hideously ugly to boot -- if it weren't for hugely discounted fleet purchases, GM Europe would be out of business peddling junk like that.

Don't know about the last ever Omega, although wouldn't be surprised if, as posted further up, they were indeed all bought up by plod (they did the same when the Rover SD1 went out of production), but have seen the last ever Ford Cortina made, it used to be kept in the Ford heritage museum next door to the Dagenham plant, and despite only having 17 miles on the clock and having spent all it's life indoors, it still had rust on the edge of the bootlid  ;D

Drove a 3.2 Elite Vectra for a long w/e when Vx were doing 48 hour test drives...when doing 80-ish on the m/way the car had a strange, slow, back-and-forth pitching motion, a bit like a boat in a storm...  :-X

I spotted an 04 plated Omega yesterday. Graphite grey colour, and probably on the M4.

Maybe we should gatehr up VINs and see who's got the latest one?

Police mainly drive Massey Ferguson or John Deere down here.  ::) I had one with blue lights flashing behind me today, I pulled over to let him pass and it took five minutes for him to get by (Slight exaggeration). I was still behind him over a mile later (No exaggeration). Quite good I suppose if you were getting chased though, which would never happen.

when you said it took 5 minutes to get passed you (no exxageration), was it going really slow because normally omega's can be very fast! A 3.2 litre can go about 150mph (149 mph to be excact), the 3.0 litre manual goes 151 mph

The Met have loads of 3.2 omegas, because they were being replaced by BMW 530TD's (auto) which weren't as good, and there were a few C class mercedes (again 3.0ltr diesels) coming in, which were not as good either! Now it's all new shape vectras which aren't very popular at all, especially as they're front wheel drive.
I've asked a few of the older police drivers in the met what they preferred and it was unanimous- the 3.0ltr Senators.  ;D A very good car  :y

you should try the proper 3.2 with a manual gearbox it will pass the 150 mark with ease given a long enough bit of tarmac. apparently ::)
only two left on the force now. >:(
any one know what the replacement to the omega is suppost to be or is it just a rumour designed to keep us long suffering plod happy for another year

Do you get the option of buying them (quiet word in someones ear>), or do you have to hope it goes to auction and you can bid?

Actually... would you want an ex-plod one yourself?  ::)

Bugger... I can only get mine up to 150 MPH, I definitely want a refund now  ::)
Maybe if you went for a little bit longer it would of reached 151mph.

you should try the proper 3.2 with a manual gearbox it will pass the 150 mark with ease given a long enough bit of tarmac. apparently ::)
only two left on the force now. >:(
any one know what the replacement to the omega is suppost to be or is it just a rumour designed to keep us long suffering plod happy for another year

i'm guessing the Veccy 3.2 V6

since you're a plod, pay regular visits to the Legal Questions thread now and again, it's been made for people who need to ask those that are in the know.. ie plod :y

when you said it took 5 minutes to get passed you (no exxageration), was it going really slow because normally omega's can be very fast! A 3.2 litre can go about 150mph (149 mph to be excact), the 3.0 litre manual goes 151 mph

Do you get the option of buying them (quiet word in someones ear>), or do you have to hope it goes to auction and you can bid?

Actually... would you want an ex-plod one yourself?  ::)

i have got one it was my car before she was put out to pasture, an 03 plate 3.2 manual with 130k on it, not quite a minter in the looks department but the important bits are fine only cost just over £1600 including auction fees. its a bit sad but i am quite attached to her

how fast does the 3.2 manual go. is it faster than a 3.2 automatic because manuals are always faster.

The brakes are up graded by fitting police pads and are avalible to the gen public, ask your dealer for police pads. they are softer pads but they do give better brake feel and stopping , but need changing  sooner than std.

yeah same as on the ambo response cars, i think thats all the difference, dont think they have any bigger disc's fitted(can you get much bigger than they are at the moment???)police use "sport" rated tires aparently, however round here they been using p9000's which are extremly good once they been worn in a bit, will take corners with ease at 90. suspension is useually just fitted with stiffer springs for stability. other than that most of it is standard.

cheers

well first MV6 anyway, its a N plate so 93/94. Supposedly my car was the car vauxhall made to sell the omega to the police. I was told it has a few updated bits such as a tigher diff, better brakes, remapped etc. but that was all taken with a pinch of salt.

it would be interesting to find out if it was true though, i know for a fact it then spend the rest of its life (with the po po) as a training vehicle in fife.

if it had any of the following in the reg plate then it is possible...

YVS, VVS, HVS, RBH, TPP

there were a few more but these were the last three letters that were generally on cars that were registered by the factory, and if it was the sort of car you are talking about then it would have been reg'd by vaux at luton and they would be the first owners as well

I had and operated 2 brand new Police spec MV6's both P reg, New direct from vauxhall and the Number Plate's ended in TUY, and I seen a lot of police vauxhalls not just omega which end in TUY.

If anyone know is these cars are still kicking around anywhere, I'd like to know the blue one on the right of the photo was mine, did 120,000 miles in 27 months and never let me down once :y

VS, BH and PP were the registration mark identifiers for Luton - as was KX, UR, BM, VD, MJ, NK, NM, GS, RO and TM, hence why you see a lot of Vauxhalls with that letter combination within as Vauxhall would pre-register some to boost 'second hand' sales....

and lo, with the information to the left of your posts, we have enough to go on to steal your identity!

People hide the reg plates on their cars in pics on tinternet for a reason!

There's a thread I saw on one of the honda forums a while back (I'll dig it out if I remember) whereby a user came on and started throwing around insults etc.

just to scare him a few of them got their heads together and just with a reg plate and an ip address within about 2 hrs they had a name, next of kin, address, place of work and bank details.
