Aaaaargh CCR!
« on: 07 June 2016, 20:05:19 »

I have the correct double din keys. I have nails and I have Allen keys.

It. Will. Not. Come. Out.

They all go in and I hear a kind of click but there's nothing to pull on. I've pushed in as far as it'll go. I've wiggled and pushed and pulled. I've almost broken the plastic Facia trying to get the damn thing out.

My keys are like nail heads. Are they supposed to have a hook?

I forgot how difficult manufacturers make it to do anything to cars.

Cheap ebay keys are no good. That said, my £8 pair were not much better :'(. In the end paid a radio fitter to do it and he struggled a bit as well. Think he used a couple of very thin flat blades. Best of luck, once it moves your,e there.

I've spent the entire evening trying to get a poxy stereo out. I cannot believe how tough it is. Even the plugs in the back are unbelievably difficult. Never again! The Dorset air is blue!

I've not even got it out. I think whoever got the stereo out (it's never sat right in the dash) must have buggered the clips as it won't even budge a mm. I've had to dismantle the whole outer woody housing just to get access and I can't even get the grey plugs off the back of the stereo. Christ what a job.

It can go for scrap, bloody thing.

I filed nice sharp notches in my removal keys (cheapie ones) and they worked a dream. They would not even budge the thing before. They are rather tight!!

PS they don't go that far in and yes they should have a notch/hook near the end.

The radio slides into a cage. The plugs are captive in the back of the cage.

I bought Autoleads removal keys & they were pretty useless. The best advice seems to be to use a triangular Swiss file to create a square edges to the teeth on business end of the keys. I didn't know that when I removed mine so I took the CD cartridge out and put my fingers and thumbs in the tape & CD slots & pulled & pulled (& pulled  >:()

It's pretty much buggered now. Broke 3 lugs off the front fascia. I might try filing the keys like you say, if only to take it out and drop kick it.

I have found if it's well stuck in the cage it's easier to prise the cage out with the radio in it.

Only viable if the retaining screw at the back of the cage has previously been removed ;)

Quite right. Sorry. I must have been referring to the earlier PFL standard size radios.

Yep. The crappy ones that you can buy have ends that are kind of diamond shape. They need to be arrow shape.
