Aux belt tensioner seems loose
« on: 26 May 2021, 07:14:36 »

Hi

Just recently done timing belt and new aux belt, done the re-grease of the aux belt tensioner as per video, seemed ok. Now I had a look at the other day and the little wheel seems a bit slack, and also can see a shadow of lube on one edge of it. I also noticed there is a section on the side of the new aux belt that looks like it has rubbed off a bit. might be a coincidence.

Is it maybe the little dust covers came off and grease escaped?

Thanks

G

If unsure of it in any way at all I'd replace at least tensioner pulley[I believe they're still available separately for not much money]or if investigation shows it necessary then the whole unit, although as I understand it it's usually the pulley that lets go.

Had a look at it again this morning, didn't seem that bad as i thought yesterday, but for all it is I'll just replace it.

Cheers all

Just checked that doesn't appear to be compatible with v6? Can you confirm?
It's for a diesel which looks to be a larger diameter.
You want GM# 9157962 which is the idler roller on it's own.
Or GM# 9202550 is the tensioner assembly with roller and supersedes GM# 90528760. Either should fit.

It might be worth checking you've got the right length belt, if you think it's too slack. The belt part number normally tells you the length and number of ribs.

It's the same belt as the old one, the belt is tight, it was the roller I thought was a bit loose.

Agreed.  :y  Helpful contributions and an encyclopaedia on GM part numbers. Takes the time to research part numbers to make it easier for other members. Very helpful.  :y

Would be a tad loose.
V6 with aircon compressor = 6PK2020
V6 without aircon or compressor omitted = 6PK1900
The best ones are Contitech. Some makes, eg Gates, specify belts that are slightly shorter and are therefore harder to fit.
