General Discussion Area / VOIP suggestions
« on: 18 October 2023, 21:27:29 »
I work from home and currently use a regular BT landline. My main handset is on the second floor and I have three other cordless handsets scattered around other locations (and normally misplaced!). Every room has a CAT6 ethernet socket.

I'm looking to get a VOIP system installed. Want something good and would preferably like to keep my BT number, though that's not a deal-breaker. Can anyone recommend a system to replace what I currently have?

Omega General Help / Which H1 bulb?
« on: 18 October 2023, 17:27:24 »
Last week, my H1 bulb gave out. For a temporary urgent fix, I got the AA to pop round and put a standard H1 bulb in.

The minor issue I have now is that since I replaced the bulbs a few years ago with extra-brightness ones (but can't remember which brand) the old near-side light is now much brighter than the new off-side light.

I fancy replacing both bulbs (so they match). I am torn between the H1 OSRAM Night Breaker Laser 150% Next Generation 12v 55w and the H1 Philips X-tremeVision Pro150 12V 55W Halogen Bulb.

Anyone have either fitted?

Andy the Gabby Cabbie reveals just how much these anti-car "charities" are being paid. Seems like the government is handing them taxpayers' money.

According to documents unearthed by Bloomberg, AOG Technics was formed in 2015 and is majority-owned by 35-year-old Jose Zamora Yrala. The company has a few million dollars in assets as of early 2022 and Yrala lists his nationality as Venezuelan on some documents, and British on others. The company has a website, but it appears to be down—not the usual trait of a legitimate business and business owner.

No smart meter? Log burner? Insufficient insulation? Against Net Zero?

Get arrested. Face a 1-year prison sentence or get fined £15000.

I despair of this once great country. It's turning into a Marxist hell-hole.  >:( >:( :'(

What has become of our country? Mob-handed police arresting a 16-year old autistic girl because of "homophobic" comment in her own house?

I despair.

A must-watch interview with Alastair Crooke CMG, former British diplomat.

Omega General Help / "Lazy" actuator
« on: 14 April 2023, 16:05:43 »
My driver's door actuator has been playing up for some time now. On first press, the other three actuators lock and then come up again as the driver's side one refuses to co-operate (it wobbles, but won't go down). On second press, however, they all lock.

Today, it decided not to play ball at all when I was out. Then, when I got home it finally wobbled and then locked.

Being an electrical ignoramus, I had thought that an actuator either works or it doesn't. This one appears just plain lazy! What could be causing this?

This isn't the first time I've had actuators play up (always seems to be the driver's door), but secondhand ones are becoming increasingly rare. I have an old one in my shed and was wondering if they can they be refurbished in any way?

TIA

« on: 29 March 2023, 14:59:04 »
I see Immigration Minister Robert Jenrick has confirmed plans to house "several thousand" asylum seekers at military bases in Essex, Lincolnshire (RAF Scampton) and a separate site in East Sussex.

I absolutely loathe this government.  >:( >:(

You can use you own location and choose which historic background to use.

Omega General Help / What does this pipe do?
« on: 09 March 2023, 17:27:19 »
The other day I noticed this pipe is completely kinked. I presume it perfoms a necessary function, but what is it and what does it do (the clear/white vertical one)?

Power brake associated, it seems.

Omega General Help / 2.6 engine ECU location
« on: 02 March 2023, 11:39:23 »
Still having trouble with the Lambda sensor heater circuit. Have had the car on a lift and the cables inspected and they look OK. I want to trace backwards from the ECU to the sensor, but can't recall where the engine ECU is.
I know the transmission ECU is in the driver's footwell. Before I start pulling the panels off, is the engine ECU in the same area?

Omega General Help / Loom location
« on: 19 February 2023, 11:18:50 »
Since I'm not ready to crawl under the car yet, I thought I'd check the wiring from the O2 sensor connection to the ECU to see if a wire has been crimped. So, from the passenger side (Bank 2, Sensor 1) where does the cable route? Into the car's passenger footwell and along to the ECU on the driver's side (?) or in the engine compartment forward of the bulk and across?

Hope that makes sense!
