Rolled over 230k today.

Catching up!  :y
I was speaking to that DTM fella at the weekend, saying that I didn't think it would do many more.

He gave me that "it'll go on for as long as you want it to" look that he has perfected over the years. But I'm still unconvinced.

Had similar thoughts about the 2.2, knocking on the door of 190k. (Original clutch and head gasket still!) the day will come when I have to choose between 3.2 and 2.2  :-\  :(

To date 2.2 has always one  ::)
Whilst the as-yet-unfound oil leak is annoying, it's the rust that we send it on to its new life holding Andy B's produce....

On Project II

Replaced bonnet, fitted Irmscher 'copy' grill, fitted levelling sensors front and rear and repaired looms, fitted temporary Elite alloys, cleaned off flaking underseal, painted on rust convertor and started soaking various nuts and bolts with plusgas.

Am awaiting the HG set I ordered t'other day for me Omega..... :(

Today will consist of, stripping the engine of its heads, then tomorrow will be rebuilding the engine with new HG set, different cams and 2.6/3.2 headers... Will also be deleting the SAI system and AC pump too :)

Need to get over to Vx dealers to get an oil filter and oil to replace the sludge thats in the engine at the moment...

Happy days.......

Don't forget to fit the later manifolds you will need the matching gaskets. Which are damned expensive compared to the 'ordinary' ones. You'll also need to trim the downpipes(quick angle-grinder job) and use two gaskets each side. The SAI is easily removed, mainly by not refitting the bits across the engine, and binning the filter under the headlight. That leaves the EGR, which can be done with a plate between it and the plenum, or by fitting a plug where the tube fits which I found quicker and easier.

Yeah am fitting the 2.6/3.2 headers with double gaskets on the downpipes... and also got the proper metal gaskets too (and yes they was very expensive), Iv even got new studs and copper pinch nuts too :)

Whats the thing where you need to grind a bit off the manifold...?

Is it where theres a threaded part...?

I am ditching the SAI system too, so should tidy up the engine bay a bit. Iv already blanked off the EGR and was planning on fabricating a blanking plate from some aluminium plate Iv got (aircraft grade may I add) so should be OK I reckon..

Oh also, need to replace the radiator that was changed last week coz its ruddy gone and burst at the seam.... so even when Iv got the engine back together, I wont be able to start it coz the oil cooler part thats built into the radiator...

Upon stripping the engine down today, Iv noticed I haven't got my T55 torx bit for when Im torquing the heads down, so a trip to Halfords or Machine Mart tomorrow for the tool, just hope they're man enough for the job...

BTW does anyone know the torque values and degrees values for the tightened of the heads...? have looked on the relevant section and theres nowt showing...?

Downpipe, not manifold. The earlier pipe protrudes into the manifold slightly more, and needs to be trimmed to make a good seal. Do this while the heads are off!

Cut about 5mm, off.
There is a guide, but it's for fitting 3.0L downpipes onto a 3.2

Ah OK, should be interesting to do that :)

Got a custom stainless system fitted, but it does seem to be a bit protruding out from the downpipes :)

Thanks for that... :y

Just had to go to get meself a decent T55 driver coz I can't find my Teng T55 anywhere....

Drove it to Boxley.
Rang for a wedding - a nice, old ring of six with very stretchy ropes which took a few rounds to get used to :y
Drove home.
I'm now going to invest the cash in a couple of pints of Shepherd Neame's finest.
