Undid the lower banjo on the ATF feed on the radiator, nipped up the housing which was leaking coolant and then spent about 1/2 hour trying to get the banjo in without X-threading.  ::)

Moved on to cam covers.  Had a very long fight with the throttle cable ball joint which refused to uncouple.  Lost that fight, so lifted plenum and removed throttle body with throttle cable still attached.  New gasket on offside cam cover and then gave up for the day!  ::)

The bastid thing has fought me every inch of the way today!!  >:(  :D

Gave mine a clean after coming back from Sudbury this afternoon (saw two migs, one grey est, other common as muck silver :D) Had some Mer in my garage for donkeys years so thought sod it, put two capfuls into bucket and after hosing it to get it wet carried on and gave it a quick wash. Dried up horrible, SWMBO said wtf have you done to it. Just gave it a brisk buff with soft cloth and it came up very well. After all these years of thinking that Mer is a load of crap i have finally found a use for it.

Put the sumps and clean filter back, refilled with ATF, and hope for the best, in the absence of any advice about running with a missing thrust washer. :-\

Took it for MOT on Friday. Passed but with advisories:

'Headlamp lense deteriorated
Shock absorber has slight corrosion to the casing (offside & nearside)'

Not an advisory but recent knocking at front confirmed as NSF link rod.

Advice please...indication of prices of shocks and rod/joint?

Any other comments?

Thanks.

Front shocks are about £60 each, but the car will need to be aligned afterwards. This makes budgeting another £25 per side for new topmounts and bearings sensible. Once the car has done about 80k miles, replacing the shocks will always make a noticeable improvement.

drop links are about a tenner each, and are quick and easy to fit.

Changed the passenger C/Locking motor, put in some oil, coolant and LPG.  Currently, I'm now putting in some more electricity...

Then you're looking at about £50 a pair, much less work and no alignment hassles.

Unless the lens is melted, the headlight is about 15minutes work to improve.
