Omega General Help / Gasket life/re-use
« on: 05 March 2015, 15:52:32 »
When I bought my current 3.2 Elite in January last year both cam gaskets were in need of replacing so this along with numerous other jobs these  were done.

Over the last few weeks I have noticed a slight traces of clean engine oil on the top of the metal sump directly below the alternator.Breathers were thoroughly cleaned about 6 weeks ago prior to an oil/filter change so that I am convinced isnt an issue.

I had a good look around things earlier today and have found traces of clean oil on the back of the o/s cover around the rear half moon and a clean cloth shows fresh oil from joint of head and cover,so am assuming that is the problem given all oil residue appears to be on the o/s of sump area.

Would I be wise just removing that cover/cleaning all thoroughly and refitting using the original 1 year old gasket and 0 rings or would the gaskets be really un-servicable and should I just buy new again and be totally safe, albeit £45 worse off  :(

General Car Chat / Auto Box Oil Change
« on: 18 February 2015, 14:41:31 »
As I dont feel like crawling around under my car and getting covered in ATF,I decided to enquire at my local VX Service ?? Center if they would be able to do the job.

After the service manager realising car doesnt have a drain plug we got down to going through the price menu.

With me supplying ATF and both gaskets and filter screen I was politely advised it would be 2.5 hours labour at £118 per hour ,although given they havent done such a car for a longtime it maybe upto 3.5 hours, which with my maths seems to be approaching £400 with me providing all parts.

When I asked if they would take car for a test drive after the work and then recheck the levels I was advised they would do that another day after I had driven it for a few days and that would encure another 1 hours labour ,so fast approaching £500.

At present the gearbox has no faults and changes smoothly although felt given age etc it would be peace of mind to have the ATF renewed, but certainly not at those prices.

Time to get dirty I think and save a fortune  :o

Omega General Help / F/L Headlight Washer Jets
« on: 01 February 2015, 10:12:33 »
Drivers side headlight washer jet has decided to not only spray water onto headlight but also another jet almost vertical so assume jet needs replacing after my efforts to adjust .

Can these be removed for replacement without removing the entire front bumper or can access and removal/replacement be carried out without major up bodywork surgery

Omega General Help / F/L Headlight Washer Jets
« on: 09 January 2015, 16:22:03 »
Noticed that my front headlight washers had stopped working so had a look at the pump.Putting 12 volts across it motor still failed to work ,but in the store cupboard I had a spare so fitted it and all working again.

Question though...The water spray from 1 side seems to completly miss the headlight and goes straight up onto the bonnet. :o

Is it possible to alter the angle/direction of the spray jets like on the P/F/L models

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / High Beam Aim
« on: 30 December 2014, 22:02:53 »
Is it possible for the aim on  headlight high beam to be adjusted without altering the low beam .?

Seems I have n/s high beam far to high in relation to the road and also that of the o/s lamp.Strange thing is the low beam pattern seems to be fine ...unless being a less concentrated light pattern it is also out but less noticeable.

Very rarely need to use high beam with the great HID,s Elites have but tonight I had a journey down some very very narrow country lanes as was quite surprised that n/s lamp on high was off the road almost into the trees but o/s gave a much better beam .

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Adding a circuit
« on: 21 October 2014, 20:12:35 »
My auto electrical skills are modest to say the least but I usually get by but would welcome some proper advise on this.

I wish to add a ignition position 1 live feed and with the help of my trusty multimeter have located fuse 13in the fuse box under steering column as being dead with ignition key removed, but live when key is turned to position 1 and full ignition.

How do I "tap " into the wiring as assume I need to pull fuse box out to get to the back but am then expecting lots and lost of wires.Do I cut and resolder with the extra wire attached or is there some clever way of not needing to start spliting existing wires.

Help as always greatly appreciated :y

General Car Chat / Cable Cutter
« on: 14 October 2014, 22:30:31 »
Can anybody point me in the right direction for sourcing a wire cutter that will just expose the internal core without cutting through..ie just removing a small section of the outer sheath.

Sure I saw such a tool but cant for the life of me find it by searching...want to tap into live feed on wiring loom but would prefer not cutting right through entire cable

Need some advise with a accident my youngest daughter was involved in several weeks ago which has reached a stale-mate.

History
Daughter was driving home from picking her baby up from child minder when a car pulled across a road junction hitting the drivers door and front wing of her car and drove off.She was understandably shaken but did follow the car which sped off into a housing estate, however fortunatley she managed to get part of the registration and make/colour of the car. There were no witnesses but looking at the damage on her car it would have been all but impossible for it to have been done by her so she drove home. She rang me from home as I was out at work and explained what had happened and the make/details as best she could remember on the car and the general area it drove off to.
On the way home from work that night I scoured the estate and quite amazingly found the car parked up and took several photos of the damage it had to the passenger bumper side and front wing  where you could clearly see the  silver paint of my daughters car on the black car she had described.
The fololowing morning she reported the accident to the police and also to her own insurance company and was given referrence numbers from both.
Since then she has been constaintly chasing both the police and her own insurance company for any progress .The police have visited the cars owner and he has denied any accident and has had part of the damage repaired although it is still quite noticeable and the police did agree that it looked like he had hit something.
As this is now over 6 weeks ago and she is still awaiting any conclusive action she contacted both the police and her own insurance company again to day as her own cars is still damaged, albeit the car is driveable, her excess is £400 which the insurance are saying she will need to pay before any repairs are carried out and next years premium will be effected by the claim.
Both the police and her own insurance company are saying without any witnesses to the accident it is his word against hers and they are not willing to take any further action.
As far as I can see she has been involved in an accident where the other driver failed to stop and now through no fault of hers she is likely to be considerably out of pocket as no witnesses were presentwhich seems to be the get out for both the police and the insurance company.
We have the full registration of the other car but not the owners name or address only the road and vague area.
Any advise and help on what we can do next would be gratefully received.

« on: 11 July 2014, 10:15:14 »
The side bolster on my drivers seat has a nasty mark in the leather which appears to of been caused either by a comb or maybe a button on trousers by usage by a previous owner.

I am sure you can get leather stain like boot polish but what is the best way to repair this and any pointers as to better supplier. The seats are Elite leather which I think has been called "shale grey" does anybody have a better description or done this before with good results :y
