This may seem an odd question in the height of summer, but Marks DTM recently pointed out that heated screen jets can fur up with scale (especially if you live in a hard water area) with the resultant loss of efficiency. So, should you use de-ionised water from the supermarket, boiled water from your kettle or just use tap water and take your chances?

We've got a water softener so I normally try to fill it from that. Failing that, fill from a water butt (very good for washing cars too. My jet washer is used solely on collected rain water - has been since last year's hose pipe ban). You do need to filter out all the mosquito larvae first! We do live in a particularly hard area though.

That seems like an awful lot of trouble just for the windscreen washers :-?

The heated ones are a real PITA.  Soft water required...  Filtered rain water works well, but keep the screenwash concentration up, and don't fill it (ie, ensure most water emptied out regular)

I have the same car, 2.6 MV6 on a 52 plate, should i have heated jets?

Mine were totally up the creek....AFTER finding out the rip off price for replacements at VX I got the normal plastic ones....
Driven nearly 30 years without "heated Sqwerters" never missed them so can't see the point really...

£4.99 for two..easy pease.

My 52 plate 3.2 MV6 has them, so I would imagine so.

Problem is, it's always the reservoir or the pipes that freeze on me!

More concentrate required, I guess.

I use distilled water in mine (along with screen wash) not due to the heated jets, but more to do with the fact that I do not like the water marks that are left behind on the paintwork after the washers have been used!
