Philips 804 upgrade
« on: 18 November 2007, 19:35:46 »

Hi! My car is equiped with Philips SC804 headunit and Philips 6-CD changer. Am looking to add an amp and woofer, but after reading various posts here came to the conclusion that its not always a straightforward job on these cars. Can someone give me more info regarding SC804. Thanks

It should be fairly easy with an 804....is it a saloon and if so, what year is it.

If it does not have phono line level outputs, you need an external amplifier that will accept high level 'speaker' inputs. The amp would be 'spliced' in between the speaker outputs of the headunit and before the speakers.

If this was considered, I would drive the front speakers and subwoofer from the external amplifier using the front channel output leaving the headunit to power the rear channel (door) speakers.

This is exactly the info I am trying to find out before I start working on it. Does this unit have line-out to power an external amp? Or doest it already have an external amp and if so where is it? The car is 1997 estate. Right now all I want to do is connect the external amp, which will power the sub and leave the doorspeakers to the headunit. At the later stage will add another amp and replace standard speakers.
