boot tail lights
« on: 17 February 2007, 20:13:02 »

hi folks,

picked up my omega from the bodyshop on Friday ... had a problem very quickly thereafter - fuel gauge reading erratic, rear fog light telltale light on dash flickering, turn signals intermittently working ... they cleaned up the earth connection in the boot and it appeared to be fine thereafter.

However, upon driving it today and switching on the sidelights, after a few seconds I got an error on the GID saying check side/tail light ... so I stopped, walked round the car and the sidelights on the boot lid aren't working, only those on the wings.

The reversing lights DO work - and I tried swapping one of the reverse light bulbs into the sidelight bulb holder - no difference. So ... any ideas? Could it be another earth missing, if so where's the best place to check? I'd have thought a common earth would have been used, yet the reversing lights work ...

thanks

Mine definately doesn't have tail lights in the boot, just in the clusters with the indicators

hmmm ... yeah come to think of it you're probably right !!!

any other ideas then - as the rear lights seem to work yet it's still moaning to check them? for some reason I seem to remember someone saying there are two tail lights on each side?

Each cluster does have two tail lights, the inner one is a single filament bulb, and the outside one is a dual filament bulb as it does the brake light too. Are these all working?

all sorted now  :y

'twas the nearside rear stop/tail light, the tail lamp filament had broken but was intermittently making contact (and working), when it stopped working due to vibration it would flag up the error. It also appears that there's only the one tail lamp per side (at least on facelifts) - the other red lamp on the boot itself is (as correctly mentioned by TheBoy) the fog light. The wing cluster only has two bulbs - combined stop/tail and indicator ...

Vx was closed, so I picked up a twin pack of stop/tail bulbs (type 380) from Halfrauds ... £2.49 retail inc. VAT - trade price (inc. VAT) ... 46p  :o

47p from the dealer ... is that each or for a pack of 2, inc. or exc. VAT?

If it's for 2 and inc. VAT then I'll probably go to Vx next time as the bulbs might be slightly better quality (noticed the old one was made by philips) - or just keep a few in stock ... depends if I can afford the extra 1p  ;)  ;D

cool ... shame stealers aren't open after 5  :'(

handy to know though, I looked on "the book online" on the trade club site and it said 28p each + VAT ... I'll try not to spend the 1p change all at once  ;)  ;D
