Omega General Help / Intermittent poor starting.
« on: 02 August 2012, 20:28:17 »
My '98 2.5 has done this twice now.
First time was on Sunday first thing, she turned over for maybe 30 - 45 seconds before finally firing as if all was right.
Second time was yesterday evening having stopped for petrol she did the same again.

I've looked through the forum a bit and from what I can see it looks like a suspect crank sensor.

Can anyone confirm my suspicion?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Another CK-7W thread
« on: 31 July 2012, 13:06:19 »
I have read the other thread relating to the installation of the Nokia CK-7W bluetooth kit but have further questions that I couldnt figure from there.

Firstly, my car used to have a mobile phone cradle installed which plugged in at the drivers kick panel - can I use that plug to wire in this kit?

If so, does anyone know the pinouts for the plug - mostly I need to know where to splice in the speaker output so that it comes through the stereo speakers.

I'm using an aftermarket stereo so I will run the mute wire directly to the head unit.

Second - is there space behind the drivers kick panel for the control unit?

The rest of the wiring for it is pretty straightforward.

Cheers!

At least I think that's what they are.

Two tyres have a couple of thousand left on them (3-4mm) the other two are barely if at all legal (2mm)

They are pretty grubby after spending a couple of years in my shed, and there is no key but that's easy to sort.

£50 ono

A chap on PNG (Performance Nova Group) took his car in for MOT today only to find it written off when he returned for it.
Full story here.

Beggars belief!

Omega General Help / Exhaust rattling
« on: 23 May 2012, 19:32:01 »
On the way back from the TC meet in Northampton my exhaust started making one helluva racket.
It sounds like the internals of the O/S middle box came adrift and the noise was there all the time.  Now the noise is only really evident if I rev the car at standstill, although it's not so easy to hear when driving with the windows up so may be doing it more.

I looked on Ebay and eternalcar and no-one seems to have a single box and buying a whole new exhaust would be an arse as mine has a relatively new backbox already.

Any ideas where I can find a single mid section?

There was one on here just last month going for free but it got scrapped already - Typical!

General Discussion Area / Free parts transportation.
« on: 08 May 2012, 20:49:04 »
Right then you lot....
I am in Stockport at the moment and will be travelling back home to Dartford (Kent) on Sunday evening via M6, M1 and M25.
The following Sunday (20th May) is the day of totalcarlton's national meet, so I'll be travelling from Kent up to Sixfields, Northampton (M25, M1).

If I can help anyone out with moving parts (or whatever) I'll be happy to do so as long as it doesnt put me far off route.

Drop me a PM if I can help.

...and got the bluetooth adapter in the post today, so I was ready for some (technogeek) playtime.

Bloody adapter is faulty...... bugger!
My phone connects to it but it will not talk to the ECU, so that'll be going back then.
I suppose it's the price you pay for buying the cheap one.

Omega General Help / Yet another cam belt question.
« on: 09 March 2012, 23:29:01 »
I'm looking at doing the cam belt on my 2.5 soon as it's been a few years since it was last done, although it's within the specified mileage.

I have looked about for the parts and can get a belt kit and water pump for £110.09 delivered from Buypartsby.

Does that sound like about the right kind of price?

Thankfully I have access to a cam locking kit and all the necessary tools so at least that's sorted.

When I looked on buypartsby there were six different kits all stating 225 teeth but with slightly different part numbers, although they would appear to be from the same manufacturer as all the part numbers start with SAF.  Any Ideas as to which one to order?

General Car Chat / Let SWMBO drive the Omega today...
« on: 01 March 2012, 21:52:52 »
She hates it!   ;D

She says it's too slow, unresponsive, heavy on the steering and feels like a tank!

Mind you she's used to her MX6 so that's to be expected I suppose.   ;D

At least I know she'll not be asking to borrow my car then.   ::)

Omega General Help / Water leak
« on: 13 February 2012, 21:49:07 »
Just when I thought I had everything ready for MOT I seem to have developed a leak somewhere, but I cant see where from.

There's a bit of steam coming from the passenger side right at the back of the engine bay and when I looked down the back I could see a thin water line running down the side of the bell housing, close to where it mates to the block.

Being a noob to this car and engine (X25XE) I can't picture which pipes run in/above that area. I will be removing the scuttle to have a good look but I was wondering if any of you more experienced peeps might have a suspect in mind.

I changed the HBV a couple of weeks ago and once that was done there was no leak anywhere.

There is plenty of ant-freeze in the system but with the temperature dropping to -10 here the other day I wont rule out a core plug or something - are there any in that area?

Oh and I broke the bonnet release cable too... what a great day!

Omega Gallery / 2.5 Estate.
« on: 14 January 2012, 22:55:47 »
I thought it was about time I started a thread on my lastest acquisition.

I picked this up just before Crimbo from a friend of mine. It was his dad's who unfortunately passed away, and has been sat for two years on the driveway.

She fired up easily enough after all that time sat dormant, but had developed a mis-fire.  My friend also mentioned the car having a water leak somewhere but he had'nt figured out where, so after a dig through the internet and finding the buyers guide on here I started suspecting the HBV leading to DIS pack failure.  Other than that It'll need one tyre replacing as it sat flat for too long.

So... today I started work.

This is my first time doing much on a V6 so I'll be going slowly.  The HT leads are going to need re-routing when I'm done I think.
The DIS pack has been removed - not as bad a job as I'd feared TBH, and the HBV has been replaced.  The DIS was mounted horizontally to the back of the block - is there an easy(ish) way to remount this somewhere easier?
The replacement DIS is arriving in the morning so I'll get cracking on it tomorrow, hopefully we'll see it running.

Looking down at the front of the V...

Is that bit of corrosion down there a cause for concern?

More questions will follow... prob'ly!

Newbie Welcome Area / Hi all.
« on: 28 December 2011, 21:22:37 »
Hi all.
I recently bought a '99 2.5 CDX estate in satin red.

At the mo she's suffering with coil pack woes and a water leak (I suspect the valve that sits above the coil pack).

I'll be looking to pick some brains soon when I set about getting her back on the road.
