+ 50 bhp and extra 2000 rpm for £5
« on: 30 November 2006, 10:57:21 »

Project 2 seemed a bit sluggish and refused to rev above 5k.
Changed the fuel filter last night and now it goes to the red line and seems to be back on song.

Im amazed that a fuel filter had so much of an effect but then Ive never left the same filters in any of my cars for 8 years to find out what happens.

Worth bearing this in mind when buying a car with unknown or dubious service history.

Pete, it might be easier to just transplant the engine and transmission from the MV6 (RIP).

It's not like Mark will need it! ;)

It should be behind the offside rear wheel.

By that, do you mean inside the boot area, rather than the actual arch area with the plastic guards :-/

You need to remove the offside rear wheel, it should be under the body where the wheel arch meets the underside of the body.

Thanks for the replies,
So if I jack up my car, let the wheel hang, I assume I remove the plastic lining and change the filter?????????????????
Is that all there is to it?

No need to remove liner the filter is clipped to the bottom of the floor pan. clips can be fiddley to remove and you have to de-pressurise the fuel system first or risk getting a petrol shower I cant remember of hand the fuse number to isolate the fuel pump to do this but i'm sure someone will be along soon to advise :y

It's fuse 18, see here
The clips are fiddley, but as my filter came with new ones I wasn't bothered about how the old ones came off.

Vx clips 49p each - part no 90542453.  AA any chance of a simple maintenance guide - based on a 2.2 like yours would be ideal.  It's the next thing on my tinkering list.  :)
