General Car Chat / Cooling system - Self Bleeding, HOW??
« on: 17 September 2010, 01:29:17 »
I am quite used to messing around with cooling systems, draining, flushing, replacing rads, fans, switches etc.. everything I've had before the mig either had a bleed nipple, screw or required running with rad cap/pressure cap off (after a coolant change) whilst squeezing hoses & raising to operating temp to expel trapped air. I understand that the mig is a pressurized system and self bleeding, yet has a threaded plastic cap that does not bleed off? how exactly does the system bleed/expel trapped air??? I understand the plumbing but not the physics  ;)

General Car Chat / Pre-Volume Chamber thingy on V6 ?
« on: 22 September 2010, 00:45:26 »
I noticed that on the pre-volume chamber, there is what seems to be a device consisting of a switch mechanism tensioned with a coiled spring and adjustable stop screw. Seems to have only a small diameter vaccum hose joined to it, no cables... Any ideas what this is for and whether or not making any adjustment to the stop screw position can influence air/fuel ratio?

General Car Chat / Acetone better than Redex?
« on: 19 September 2010, 19:45:45 »
I've seen a lot of posts on VxON suggesting than acetone (nail polish remover) in measurements of approx 1-2ml per litre of fuel (thats a max ratio of 2:1000 for the mathematically minded) cleans the fuel system far better than any additives on the market? I'm not endorsing any such practices but I am curious to know if any OOF'ers have tried it  ::) ::) ::)

If so what sort of results  :y

General Car Chat / oh.... the joys of omega ownership
« on: 05 September 2010, 23:11:47 »
Just put in a new set of NGK plus on the V6 expecting to find nice dry plug wells, following new rocker cover gaskets and breather system cleaned... but instead found this...

after having to do this...

I love the mig but the workshop manual really should include the following statement in the maintenance schedule: "EVERY 250 MILES OR WEEKLY, WHICHEVER COMES FIRST... TEAR DOWN YOUR ENGINE BAY, REPLACE ROCKER COVER GASKETS & CLEAN BREATHERS" If it carries on i'll swap for a 4 pot  >:( any offers?

General Car Chat / Petrol V6 returning 36mpg urban cycle
« on: 31 August 2010, 20:06:14 »
Just upgraded my alloys (latest 16" facelift 5 spoke's) and fitted KUHMO ECSTA KH11 tyres (after some elitist comments about running on budgets). So now I have tyre's rated 3rd best in the world, http://www.kumhotire.com/cs/notice/notice_view.jsp?num=3
better than pirelli & bridgestone  ;) Best thing of all, is that my average consumption on the MID has risen from 23-36mpg  :y I'm sure the cataclean & new air filter have helped too  ::)

General Car Chat / Best V6 on the market
« on: 12 August 2010, 01:51:57 »
been told that the V6 omega engine is probably one of the best examples of german ingenuity & engineering on the market... question is... other than obvious differences such as BHP or top speed... as a unit is there one Omega V6 lump that is simply the best?? 2.5L 2.6L 3.0L 3.2L etc. "ENGINE ONLY" including LPG & TD :y not which car, because thats too subjective  ;)

Putting a few ad's out for my mig & decided to post an ad on another Vx website.  My ad clearly states that it's a 1996 2.5 V6 (pre-facelift).  I explain that the rocker gaskets need replacing & along with other comments, a senior member makes the following statement:

Quote
...the cam covers have probably distorted and will need replacing as well. Over complications include rotten spark plug leads due to the plug end being sat in oil and there after failing dis packs due to the plug being soaked in oil as well...

I go on to explain that my Omega (2.5 pre-facelift) does not have dis-packs? further explaining that I have single distributor at the rear of engine (DIS Module, to be purist).

Topic gets locked by the Moderator! (not gonna name, names here 'cos they're an oof member) who also agrees with the member that thinks pre-facelifts have dis-packs  :P

Have I gone mad? aren't dis-packs the things mounted on top of each rocker cover, on facelift 2.6 & 3.2 models only? I have rubber HT leads.

Give me strength!

Is the single DIS Module on the rear of a PFL engine refered to as dis-packs or dis-pack? Am I losing the plot? Ok don't answer the latter question  ;) :D ;D

General Discussion Area / Pope Protestors... Huh?
« on: 18 September 2010, 19:34:43 »
Pope Protest Huh?

So... the Pope arrives in UK on a state visit for the first time in 29 years & there are large
groups of people protesting against him... Who are these fools? If they are non-catholic why
on earth does church dogma, canon or doctrine concern them? Is anyone forcing them to stop
using condoms? forcing them to have a baby? forcing them to be a heterosexual? can't see it
myself... unless they are a practicing Catholic they don't have to adhere church teachings,
obviously  :-X

Then they say the Pope is killing people in the 3rd world because of
church teaching on contraception. Last time I looked there were 12 million African children being schooled
by the Catholic church & hundreds of Catholic missionary priests sacrificing everything & risking their
lives to provide clean water... Are these protestors suggesting it's the responsibility of
the Catholic church to also distribute condoms? Would they expect Hindus to feed starving people
with beef? Why aren't they doing something themselves, instead of whinging and whining? They
want women priests yet seems to overlook the fact that women become Nuns... Men can’t become Nuns, do they call for men to become Nuns... course not, there just fools that don't understand anything.

As regards the sex abuse scandal... we know these terrible things can happen in any large
institution, there will always be sick twisted individuals that slip through the net and of
course bring shame on the very institution that stands against such abhorrent acts of abuse.
The Pope speaks out against these terrible crimes unlike many other religious leaders who
scarcely broach the subject? Is it not happening anywhere within their organisation? Has not
a single minister in the world from any other religious organisation done such terrible
Things? Hmmmm… We certainly don't here much about it... that’s what I would call a cover up!

The Pope has apologised on behalf of the whole of the Catholic church for the crimes of
others & calls for us to pray for the victims... what do these protestors want him to do?
apologise for something he hasn't done? Why don't they put their banners down & go have a
drink with Peter Tatchell. I think it's disgusting that they want to disrupt a peaceful
prayer vigil for thousands of people including Jimmy Mizzens mum & dad.

Where are these protestors when Islamist preachers take to the streets of London? Muslim women have no
chance of becoming an Imam 'cos there not even allowed to worship with men! As for
homosexuality, I don't think to many Muslims are going to publicly announce that they're
gay... If a Catholic say's they are homosexual, other Catholics won't attack them. Elsewhere in the world people are being stoned to death under sharia law & we have idiots protesting against the Pope.. how

stupid are they... rant over  ;)

« on: 01 September 2010, 01:35:15 »
Am I the only driver in the UK that still has an ordinary paper licence? everyone seems to have the new style photo card  licences with paper part. Even old people that have been driving before I was born have plastic fantastic licences? Why pay good money for a plastic card when you can keep your real one... anyone else got a real one ::)
