« on: 02 August 2008, 17:45:00 »

Hi all, has anyone replaced the speakers on this model before??? My front drivers side one is rattling so it's time to replace them all with some nice ones, any suggestions of what will fit would be greatly appreciated,,,,

Cheers all

I seem to recall they are a odd size (depth?) making some speakers (plus adpaters) too big.

Additionally, the speakers aren't too bad, its the HU that lets it all down.

Disagree - change the lot !!  Paper cone speakers are just as bad as the budget head unit that drives them.

There are plenty of speaker adaptors available for the Omega, whichever shape or size of speaker you decide to go for. Your Car audio shop will advise on speaker basket depths, and as TB said, don`t go over deep.

Sorry, yes, they are definately not the best (not the worse either though) - my point was that the HU is the weak point.  Driven by a decent amp at normal listening levels, sounds much better.

You do need really quite shallow mounting speakers (no more than 50mm if I recall correctly.

The adaptors for the Omega are awkward too as there aren't any direct adaptors (unless things have changed recently).

This is correct, on both counts. I ended up with some Corsa adaptors for 165mm speakers IIRC but had to space them out by 5mm or so to stop the speaker fouling the window glass, and remove a locating lug from the rear of the adaptor. Then I had to cut away some material from the inside of the door card too.

If it weren't for the fact that I thought the speakers were faulty at the time I wouldn't have bothered.

It's not so much dosh... A set of decent 2 way speakers and some Corsa adaptors for 10-15 quid. The problem is the time you'll spend faffing about getting them to fit.
