Title: Changing cams on X25XE - change exhaust manifolds?
Post by: JimmyR on 14 November 2018, 21:06:07
This week or next I was planning to change the standard cams on my X25XE for four X30XE G cams that I've had in the garage for ages.

While I'm* under the bonnet and elbow-deep, would it be worth changing the exhaust manifolds for those from a Y26SE or Y32SE?
I've read here that they flow a little more freely and I can probably get some for this weekend/next. I'll be changing the cambelt, water pump and tensioner anyway

Opinions are gratefully received  :)

(and if anyone has any other pro tips for getting a little more power from an X25XE which is currently standard, I'm all ears :) )

*This may be someone with more mechanic skills than I have. We will see how it goes

Drop a complete 3.2 lump in and swap the sensors for your 2.5 ones... A 3.0 ecu and transponder chip set would finish it off ;)

The other option would be the Z20LET that I have! That could be the longer term plan...

For now I'm keen to keep the 2.5 in there. Just using up the cams I have and checking if there's anything else simple that I should be doing

Waste of time and money  ;)

2.6/3.2 exhaust manifolds are a worthwhile upgrade.  :y

I think that you're probably right....I just think that since the cams are there anyway and I want to change the belt and tensioner it's worth a go.

The 2.0 turbo has way more potential than the 3.2 for out and out power, so if I was doing an engine swap, that's what I'd do

Thanks, how worthwhile are we talking? Best to put them in with the cams or can they wait?
Is there anything else that should be done along with them?

On a 3.0l they allow the engine to rev slightly faster over about 4000rpm. If you regularly do that(and I never did), have a pair plus the gaskets and like awkward time consuming jobs, then fit them. I did mine because a pair came up cheap while I had the heads off; I wouldn't bother with them again.

Fitting the bigger engine is a better use of your time and money.
