How the young have to learn the hard way, and prove to themselves that they are not invincible....
You stand along a road, at the sides, on the central reservation, everywhere, to watch very inexperienced boy and girl racers show off at some speed their pride at joys.......What can go wrong??!!

Oh dear! ::) ::) ::)
It is a miracle that no one was killed :o :o :o

a mixture of idiot in nissan speeding
toyota pulling out when he cant see,
and onlookers blocking the view,
would anyone stand on the hard shoulder of a motorway?
-
would anyone stand on the hard shoulder of a motorway?
I regularly see people sitting in their broken down cars on the hard shoulder of a motorway (where we actually have any left and it hasn't been turned into a live lane) .. so.. yes?

And the police state there is an average of just 8 minutes before you can be involved in an accident whilst being there. :o :o
Also, yes, the madness of removing the hard shoulder in favour of so called smart motorways, is purely to save money from building extra full lanes, and it will cost lives :'( >:(

Sadly, the depleted gene pool seems to have not improved with this incident.

Better to stand on the hard shoulder than sit in the car. Much, much better.
What happened at Stevenage is nothing new for that sort of event: thirty years ago they were frequently shut down for close or near misses. We used to got to Maidstone bridge most weekend nights, and crash free nights were rare. I know the bloke who wrote off the burger van........
-
No sympathy for anyone involved. If they are old enough to be allowed out by themselves at night time, they should be wise enough not to drive like that when there are lots of people standing very close, and wise enough not to stand really close to cars being driven by nobheads.

This^^^^^ I can't remember the amount of times one of us would smash a bike or car up, then be chasing round the next day for bits to repair it, we were lucky nobody was ever badly hurt, cuts, bruises, then repeat again.... :o But we were all indestructible at that age
-
Reports were that cars were racing, but it appears someone pulled out in front of someone??

FTFY :y
Andy(the bloke who killed the burger van) used to rotate his Escorts as one was always smashed to bits. He's a painter, so the practice was useful

No they were showing off leaving the meet, as car guys have always done. Doing that on public roads surrounded by people is stupid, and always was. And yes, I used to.
-
No it seems like somebody (Toyota) pulled out in front of someone..... A GTR 35 maybe not a ‘streetrace’ as reported.
-
Ahh, looks like there was a ‘streetrace’ However someone pulled out in front of one of the participants
-
They were very lucky that although[last figure I heard]17 people had been injured to varying degrees there were no fatalities. This event supposedly a static car show has been running for many years without incident and has raised a fair bit of cash for charities and could now be in danger of being banned from happening in future because of the behaviour of a couple of show off idiots.

It won't have been a couple of show offs. Why do you think the roads were lined with that many people?
-
Because it's always going to kick off with a couple of show offs, then others will join in and then the crowd
will come to watch the "fun".

Yep, and it's not just the young who do that either ::) ::) ;)

I know :o (see quote below). Even with the ageing members of OOF at the recent'ish meet at Brackley, Tony felt it necessary to warn some of the older members on OOF not to misbehave. They've got to remember that their cars are more powerful than their eyes in later life. :) When the scenery moves faster than your eyes can focus it's time to slow down. :)
Oh....please NO drifting, wheelspins, handbrake turns, J turns, street racing etc, in the carpark !!!!! :)

This is why I didn't go, as I didn't think I could show my Volvo estate at it's best! ;D

The original intention of the motor car was simply to get from A to B
Then do it quicker
Then do it in more comfort
Then do it quicker again
Then do it for fun
Then do it better than your next door neighbour
Then do it to impress ladies
Then do it to impress others the same as you
Then do it to massage your ego
Then do it to pretend you have more money than the next person
(you don't really, it's on a finance deal!)
I kinda wonder if those with a heavy right foot are lacking in female company, or lacking the use of their right hand !
I'm just not sure that driving for "fun" is actually a good idea.
Oh God, I really am boring . . . . but alive.

Its a good list...bit it turns full circle, after doing all that lot, you are now much, much, older, and the first line then repeats :)
-
The older I get... the faster I was :o
