Hey i tried to replace my old ignition switch in my 97 cadillac catera. And when i got the switch off i broke the tip of the ignition lock cylinder,it was in the inside of the switch is there anyway i can replace the lock cylinder for cheap.or install a push button.

Without seeing what exactly you've broken it's difficult to say. How about replacing the whole column with A N Other? :-/

I assume you're talking about the bit that extends into the switch? This is part of the lock cylinder which can easily be removed from the barrel by pressing something into the release hole.
See the bottom picture here:

Then you can get a 2nd hand cylinder, replace the lock levers with those from your lock so your key will operate it, and reassemble.

Ah! Without a key is more difficult. Probably the best solution would be to cut off the shear bolts that hold the lock assembly to the steering column and replace with a new one. :-/

yea ima try that the catera that im getting the ignition off of is at a pull yard so i wouldnt need to replace. I had the key for my catera so my ignition was easy to come off.

Ahh, OK. Finding a donor with a key would be a good idea to get the cylinder out of the lock in one piece!
Maybe there's someone on here breaking a car who would be happy to post it to you? Postage wouldn't be too bad for a small, light package like a lock cylinder.
