Thank god for that, it's not a pleasant experience.

You're not wrong. I posted the initial paperwork off to the solicitors acting on the purchase on the 1st of April. Today they called to say they hadn't got it yet. Even though I'd called and spoken to them in the morning and re-sent everything via email (modern miracle that it is) before noon today. FFS. Convey Law, so far not impressing.

Of course I'm also pretty close to pulling the plug on the move due to work pulling the rug out and meaning that instead of working from home I'd be doing a 6hr daily commute (Northampton->Chertsey->Northampton).

Anyway.. congrats STEMO, now you can pay your STAMP.

Thank you, Aaron. Here's a pic of what will be my lads bedroom. There's an ensuite hiding in the corner behind the camera. I reckon he could live up there.  ;D

Jeesus, how far north are you moving to get somewhere like that for £100k!

The place we were/are buying is ~180m2 and is £455k (although it does have a double and a 1.5 car garage) .. seems positively poor value, now!

Also yes, no stamp, even better. The stamp on £455k is eye watering..

Good to know I should be able to retire back to God's Own County when the time comes, then :y

Although the crime figures for Barnsley don't look too appealing (even Bracknell is significantly better with Barnsley on a par with Basinggrad!) :-X

Just looked at RightMove at Barnsley, wish I had not now. Can get some seriously big houses up there for peanuts compared to here.  :'(

But always a reason for these things, guess jobs and work is very different. Very limiting options for type of work I do that far up Norf  :(

Yes, Gav, could never aspire to the heady heights of Leeds.

Riverside apartments in Liverpool: gazing out across the Mersey, almost a mile wide, from a sturdy old tobacco warehouse apartment.
Riverside apartments in Leeds: gazing across the stream they call a river, right into the living room of the apartment across the 'river' from your cardboard and plastic box.  ;D

I looked at the statistics for Northampton too - that's worse than both!  :o

I'd rather be closer to the coast, anyway.. Brid would be nice, even though it's a bit chavtastic in summer.

You're not wrong - a colleague just put an offer in of £700k on a five bed end-terrace in Old Woking  :o

Thing is if employers were in any way sensible then you, and I, could easily work from home over the interwebs; I have a bunch of colleagues doing my old job remote (Anglesea, Tenerife, etc) but my new one for some reason has been decreed to be office based. Bah.

Being a wealthy old bastard I imagine you went to the estate agent and slapped the cash on the desk. :y. "We can't be doin wiv one of them mortgage things, I haven't got to where I am today by wastin my hard-earned brass on interest payments. I'll leave that kind of tomfoolery for them shandy drinking bed-wetting nancy boys  from down south"

Seriously though...... sounds like a good move. :y

One final thought. If it's a select area you're moving to the residents may ask you to keep the lurid green Astra out of sight. Lowers the tone of the neighbourhood you see.

Bastards all of them!  >:(   So let's screw 'em!  :y

The fact that private landlords provide more housing than government, seems to go over people's heads... So yes it's a great idea to add costs small businesses isn't it?  ::)

The Tories of all people should understand this, but they're just like Blair's mob these days, more interested in opinion polls than common sense!  >:(

If you add costs and bureaucracy to any business the consumer will alway lose out.  :(
