Omega General Help / Re: 2.6 lower sump gasket dilemma
« on: 05 August 2020, 14:54:30 »
Thanks for the advice, I decided to get an Elring gasket. I am glad I did as laying under the car I know that if I had used the proper sealant there was no way I would have been able to get the 20 bolts in and torqued up in the 10 minutes specified on the sealant.

Omega General Help / Re: cant get started
« on: 05 August 2020, 14:46:49 »
I had this problem with my 2.6 about 6 years ago, would not start and no fault codes.  I replaced the crank sensor and it started first time and had no problems since. I personally did not buy one from the main dealer, the guy in my local independent parts place told me that Vauxhall do not make sensors for their cars.  They are made by Bosch, Semans, VDO and Delphi "formally Lucas".  As long as it is one of these brands he said it is as good as a GM part. The one i fitted was made by Delphi.

Omega General Help / 2.6 lower sump gasket dilemma
« on: 21 July 2020, 14:11:28 »
Hi all,
To cut a long story short, i have had intermittent low oil pressure and decided to remove the sump and clean the oil delivery tube. I went to local dealers to get oil, filter, "o" ring for delivery tube and sump gasket.  I was told that the lower sump uses a sealant as a gasket and it is expensive and advised me to get "Elring Dirko S HT" as it is the same stuff but cheaper.
On un-bolting the sump i discoverd that there is a rubber coated gasket and no sign of any sealant.  When i bought the car it came with full service history and all other work had been done at main dealers. I checked through everything and there was nothing about having the sump gasket replaced. This has lead to be believing the gasket was fitted from new.

My dilemma is do i use the sealant or the gasket?

Thanks

Omega General Help / Lock/latch parts
« on: 11 June 2020, 20:06:09 »
Hi all,
hope you are all well.

The other day i replaced the two micro switches in the driver’s side central locking motor. My son was giving me a hand and has damaged the securing clip which attaches the internal door opener to the lock. "Brown plastic clip"  I have spoken to Vauxhall dealer but they did not seem to understand what I require.  I know these parts were available for other vehicles but not sure about the Omega. does anyone know if they are sold separately or come with a new lock?

I can post a picture of the part if it helps

Thanks

Julian

Hi all, I have a 2002 elite of which a bit and run driver obliterated the drivers side mirror. All that is left is the metal frame and motor housing. I have one from my scrapped CD model and was wondering if I swapped the loom inside the mirror with the 9-pin loom from the elite one, would the memory work. Has anyone tried this.

A friend of mine had same problem. After several days of trying to find the problem he noticed he had put the wrong timing belt gear on the camshafts, the exhaust sprocket was on the inlet camshaft and vice versa.

On the underside of the mirror there is a light that shines onto the centre console. Can you replace the bulb or LED.

Omega General Help / Re: Which side is bank 2
« on: 23 June 2019, 16:38:02 »
I found the cable had been severed by the propshaft. I tried to solder them back together but for some reason the solder would not stick despite using flux. I ended up using bullet connectors and heat-shrink. Does anyone know where to buy a new connector or new pins for the connector.

Omega General Help / Re: rear shocks
« on: 08 May 2019, 17:30:34 »
Hi,
Just had the same problem with mine. Found genuine shocks available in Norway and USA but very expensive with the shipping.
My springs were replaced with standard ones a couple of years ago so i just got some standard shocks.  I went for Bilstein B4,s, I got them from a company called "Spring-Loaded", a suspension specialist. they were about £54 inc postage.  Great improvement to the ride of the car, I highly recommend them.

Omega General Help / Re: Self leveling rear shocks

Thanks for the advice. I will replace them with standard shocks, i replaced the springs 2 years ago with standard springs so they are ok to handle the shocks.  It is a shame that the new owners of Vauxhall have decided to delete a lot of parts for the older vehicles. My local dealer said it is has been a nightmare for them, telling customers the parts are no longer available.

Omega General Help / Self leveling rear shocks

I have been informed by main dealers that the self leveling shocks have been discontinued by Vauxhall. After quite a search on Internet I have found they are available in USA and Norway but at a high price, £380 is the cheapest from Norway. I am contemplating replacing them with standard ones. Bilstein said they can supply me with a pair of B4 shocks at a discount £93 delivered. Those of you that have already done this, have you had any problems, can you disable the compressor by removing a relay or fuse. Thanks
