General Car Chat / Omega hunt
« on: 02 February 2016, 23:35:47 »
Alright fellas, been many years since I posted here and I hope your all doing well, but then again its been many years since I owned an Omega! Recently it was my wife’s 40th birthday and on the lead up to it I spent so much time asking her what she wanted for her birthday. Well, and as wife’s do she hummed and hared about it never giving me a straight answer, so I wrestled with her undeceive moods for ages leading up to the day. 3 weeks before her birthday I said ‘Hun, what would really make your birthday, what can I get you that would make it worth wile’ She then said that she would love to relive the days before we had the kids and would love a facelift 97-99 Omega Elite. I thought, ok, easy, there must be loads of them about. How wrong I was. I spent those 3 weeks looking for the car, came across Elite,s with rotten bodywork rotted wheel arches, some that had been in the hands a wannabe racers with stupid cone filters on them, weeping rocker covers on both sides, idiots trying to sell me CDX,s with Elite trim, even had one 2ltr GLS with the Elite interior tying to fob me off . Basically every motor I came across was a horror story. I just couldn’t find the right car in time, so as an alternative I bought her a 1998 Volvo C70 T5 GT which she was pleased with, not an Omega Elite but from the same era so she was happy with it. Its only on retrospect that I realise that I should have come back the this forum first in search of an 90s, Elite. I should have asked you guys first, but as I have a memory like a leaky boat I forgot about this forum until now, 5 days after her birthday, lol. Always the bloody way, this dam T5 leaks cash and fluids far more than any Elite we used to own. Again, should have remembered you guys in the first place. :-\

Omega General Help / Yet anouther lambda question
« on: 05 August 2007, 00:55:25 »
Had a little result on ebay today so I treat meself to £10 of that super unleaded fuel, the pricy stuff! ;)
Really opened up the V6 in sports mode for about half hour, had great fun.
The only EML code showing is the 89lambda, as the breaks ceased to exist with hard driving, and the temp went just passed 100 the EML went out! Eased off, temp droped EML came back on! Opened here up again, temp just passed 100 and went no higher, EML went out again!
Again returned to normal driving, temp droped, and EML came back on.

IS this the hot exhaust gas making the lambda work right? Or is it just some strange fluke?

Changing the pads today and on the pasanger side found this neatly tucked away.

Omega General Help / Throttle position sensor
« on: 20 July 2007, 00:54:20 »
So where abouts is this? Have read a few posts referring to dodgy connections on the tps, would like to check mine to cross it off me list of suspects, but don’t have a clue (per usual) where it is then? ;)

Omega General Help / Autobox this time
« on: 20 July 2007, 12:02:59 »
Right this has been pissing me off all week, and now its just making me mad ::)
Have to poodle everywhere because everytime i floor the throttle, (when I say floor it, i mean not floor it to kickdown, but just before kickdown) autobox comes up on the MID and goes into limp. It is fine on restart, but as soon as you put the peadle to the floor, it does exactly the same thing again. So its not a one off, but a constant problem and is there everytime we use the car.

Any ideas.

Omega General Help / ABS/TC light on all the time now!
« on: 11 July 2007, 22:40:31 »
Yea, there permantly on now! After starting they dont come on untill I move off though!
All that coming up on paperclip is 19 crank sensor, could this be related? And could it be due to low brake pads?

Omega General Help / Broken spring broken top mount
« on: 10 July 2007, 16:22:34 »
Monday I had the car jacked up to change the front and back wheels round for even tyre wear. Since then there is a road noise (very similar to off road tyres on tarmac) and a clanking from the passanger side when going over small bumps as if somthing wasnt tightened up! Just had it up in tha air again and on the passenger wheel has a lot of play in it when you move it from left to right! (Engine off and on the ground) Also you can turn the spring n inch or two each way! The driver side spring has no play in it at all!
Took it down to my local garage with no intention of  letting them do any work on it, just wanted to find out the problem as its scrubbed the tyre down in 24 hours >:

They told me all the knuckles and the bottom end of the suspension were fine on both sides
Also there telling me it needs 2 springs £210 fitted, yea, right! ::) Even though they couldnt find a break in the passanger spring, and went on to tell me the the drivers side spring was fine ::)
Or the top mount on the passanger side! Now I have no idea what this is?
They also said if I dont have the right tools Im gonna have to pay someone to do the job!
And finaly they have told me not to use the car till its fixed, is this nessesary?

So any opinions??? And what is the 'Top Mount'??

Omega General Help / have i got it right?
« on: 07 July 2007, 13:34:04 »
Right, I jut wanna be double sure here, I know It a dumb question but I really wanna be sure on this!
The two smaller pipes on the breather box

White arrow, carbon canister vent? (the longer of the 2)The same thing the Y-pipe goes into?
Pink Arrow, (the shorter one) post throttle breather?

Omega General Help / What goes on here then??
« on: 07 July 2007, 11:08:35 »

Am nailing it all back together this morning, and dont wanna get anything wrong, so I have to questions, just ot be sure
Firstly which pipe goes on the end of this??

Secondly when I put the breathers back on from the black airbox do the route exactly as in this pic from the maintenance guide, for instance as you look at the 2 small breathers, does the one on the right, as you look at the pic, deffinatly go to the breather box??

Omega General Help / Inlet bridge gasket
« on: 05 July 2007, 17:34:56 »

Yep, started striping ready for the rocker gasket going on and found this when I took injectors off

Been onto the stearlers and there saying they wont have one till next week! >:( >:( And they want £10+vat ::)

Need to get this sorted before next week so what I need to know is, can I but the dasket as an aftermarket part or is it GM only?

Also would this have made any differance to the cars overall performance?
