Past month or so mother tunnies 3.0 Elite Estate would barely get past 75 on the temp, been putting the job off for ages. But finally did it yesterday, took most of the day mind.

Big thanks to the TheBoy for giving up his afternoon (in-between swearing at his rear hand brake on his MV6) 

Also thanks to Daz for the handy tips on the barsteward of a coolant transfer pipe, what a kak design that is.  - (no doubt its good for 'engine design' but its rubbish for basic maintenance!)

Damn good job there is not a swear pot in my garage as i could have burnt about a years salary in one day 

Took it to work today and its back in business, runs at 85 spot on all most all of the time, occasionally rising to 86/87.

Economy is up too, cruise control motorway run saw 28mpg, giving it large on the way back doing 90+ 70, and red lining it away from most round-abouts saw the average drop to just 25mpg. (was reset that morning)

Oh i still am 

Plenum, inlet manifold, plastic plate thing, not a problem, but that barstweard bolt caused problems, acess was better was the pas pipe to the pump was moved down. Managed to get it back in via luck only. Transfer pipe was a b!tch too, TB did those parts for me

Will be doing some big miles (well for me anyway) at the end of the month so hope to do my stat before then to eke out a few more mpg.

Couple of tips courtesy of Daz:

1) Take off the bracket for the PAS pump, this allows you to push the lower feed pipe down, gives useful extra room

2) Release the stat first, before taking bastard bolt out, make sure its loose, and wiggle the fek out of it (technical term  ) then release bastard bolt. Found its worth putting the stat bolts back in again to help wiggling that transfer pipe off.

3) Make sure you get the 2 extra O-rings for the transfer pipe, these are NOT supplied with the stat kit.

4) There are also 2 types of stats, 'thick' flange, and 'thin' flange

5) For the sake of a tenner or so, might be worth having a spare transfer pipe handy before you do the job, as its only a bit of cast ally, and I reckon wouldn't take much to break the bracket off.  If you don't use it, sell it on
