Omega Gallery / Omega B2 3.0 V6 Executive from scrap to sunshine
« on: 03 February 2024, 15:35:39 »
This will be a long opening post... but in fall 2021 I bought one of my dream cars:

Facelift saloon Omega with 3.0 litre V6 (X30XE), automatic gearbox and open diff. "They say you should never meet your heroes"- sentence kinda started to make sense, eventhough this was one the cheapest on the market, and mayde thatīs why it came with many faults:

-cambelt hasnīt been done for over 8 years, also the milage window was full
-cam covers were leaking oil
-minor issues with tempratures
-propshaft was wibrating
-handbrake didnīt feel right
-rear brake discs were gone
-brake lines were rusty
-dodgy repairs on the reardoors, also passengers side front had some corrosion
-and some other minor issues

Summer 2022:

Did the timing belt, water pump, auxilary belt&tensioner.

New thermostat and o-rings to water rail sorted out the heat issues 8)

Installed a second-hand-prop shaft.

Added new hand brake cable. After adjusting brake shoes, feeling and bite was spot on  :y

Then I had move on the repair my daily driver, and I left this one to garage, yet Iīll had to sort out oil leaks, also managed to spun oil filter housing while changing new filter, which meant one oil leak more. Brakes were undone as well.

Spring 2023 I made VLog from oil leaks and solutions that I came up with:

Starting point:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amvIT1OBWx0

Cock-up:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nnd6VSu320s

Oil filter conversion:

Alloy cam covers:

Result:

Then it was time to fix those brakes:

New lines and hoses all round.

Rear calipers done, starting point didnīt look too good ;D

Also front calipers rebuilt, brackets cleaned and painted.

For budget reasons I used old discs (which werenīt actuacllu that bad) and add only new pads. In some point I will buy more high quality discs and pads.

The radiator draining plug was leaking, with short search on eBay, I found new one:

So this was an easy fix 8)

Before MoT I wanted fix exterior a bit, and here is a VLog which reveals most of work:

And here is happy owner talking ;D  :

Rest of the summer I just kept on driving and enjoying. Despite having open diff, this is after all an Omega which means it does still go sideways, as long as you donīt lift an inch, outer wheel keeps spinning, cause if you do it bites and you en up having that inside wheel spin or "one tire fire" ::)

The after market rims are quite.. horrible and for that reason I gotse of these:

I will get new tyres during on this spring.

Future plans for the car is to keep on restoring it, fix the underside, take the rear beam off and add new bushes, also new bushes to front as well. And propably I will replace orignal diff with an LSD.

If I had time, I would like to convert this to manual, I already have a C25XE flywheel, but I havenīt bought other bits yet.

Omega Gallery / My Omega B2 2.2 16v from lemon to daily driver
« on: 01 February 2024, 17:47:07 »
I decided to make separate topic from this one, propably making another from my V6 later on... ;)

I bought this five years ago:

Its 2001 model facelift/B2 Omega 2.2 litre petrol engine, with manual gearbox and 40% LSD. Also this has air conditioning ;D  Car had more than few issues... Cam cover was leaking, thorttle body was in oil (breather setup/one the hoses was blocked), brake pedal feel was horrible, handbrake wasnīt ok, exhaust manifold was leaking and two studs had been snapped, rear wheel arch needed to replaced , driver side sill needed to also replaced and couple original bits were missing/wrong.

First years I was mainly doing repairs to engine and brakes:

I drilled out snapped studs from the head and got manifold skimmed straight.

I changed cambelt etc.

I fixed oil breather system, by drilling hole in the throttle body from 1mm to 2mm and adding new hoses. Also new gasket to cam cover, yes o-rings as well and I found that missing Ecotec-plastic over cam cover.

I got calipers rebuilt with new pistons and seals, new brake hoses, discs and pads. I also changed new handbrake cable.

In summer 2022 I did the biggest fixes for exterior:

There is also a VLog about that on my channel:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cA0rIWSTNKc

(unfortunately my english isnīt that good :-\  )

After I got car back on road and was almost ready for MoT, I get caught from drifting and lost my driving licence for almost two months  :'(

Eventually I got the car to MoT, and just drive it through winter, after all this is my daily driver.

Last but not least, I took rear beam out for overhaul, meaning new bushes and quick service to LSD ;D

Whole beam was rebuilt and installed back to car, after then I took it for suspension geometry allignment and boy it was great to drive again! :y

As you may have noticed Iīm going D-I-Y-principal and the only thing that wasnīt done by me was the allignment.

Propably I forgot mention something cause there are so many things Iīve done to this, but thatīs mostly all by this far.

The silver one (Star silver 2) is my daily driver, itīs 2.2 litre (Z22XE) manual with LSD and the dark grey (Moonland) is 3.0 litre V6 (X30XE) automatic. I,ve done lot of work with both cars, welding, prepwork, painting, servicing engine etc.
