Title: Rain Sensor
Post by: WHITE OMEGA on 02 January 2024, 16:39:35
Hello All
I just retrofit a complete rain senor set ...the question is How does it work ..is there anything that activate or disactivate the sensor ...and how to check the connections?

Regards

If wired in correctly with the correct stalk (one without the variable wipe), it should just work when in the intermittent position.

I have a nagging doubt that the rain sensor windscreen is different to the standard windscreen, to allow the camera to work...

To be honest, on the Omega, the standard intermittent wipe is more effective than the automatic wipe, which seems to detect is its raining on another continent.

Also, there are two types of rain sensors, for UV and non UV windscreen ( which I learned the hard way)

Screen is different as it has a lens added to it along with the mounting point for the sensor.

Heat reflective screen is additionally different.

Believe that is a Tech II setting. I've had the same physical Sensor fitted to both standard and Heat Reflective windscreens without issue.

Don't think any part of wiper system is diagnosable, so prob not a setting that is adjustable via diags tools.

The intermittent has never worked on my elite since I got it, it had recently had a new screen fitted before I got it so maybe something not right after that, also the N/S section of the cover on the back of the sensor bit fell of a couple of times of it's own accord.

There is a timer relay for the intermittent wipe   ;)

Isn't that what the VW relay mod was about :-\

Basically turns the standard intermittent into variable iirc

Mine wasn't VW modded
was working fine ,until it wasn't  ;D
intermittent and speed one worked when they felt like it  ,wipers wouldn't park sometimes  :(
I thought it would be the motor from previous experience with rusty Vauxhalls ,
but it was the relay
the SAAB one was the cheapest NEW genuine, non Chinesium relay at the time

Funnily enough I pulled back the switch for the washers the other day and the wash/wipe worked, that was another thing not working, I don't think intermittent works though, anyhoo cheers for the link :y
