General Discussion Area / Close call police
« on: 11 November 2015, 16:32:11 »
Driving to work today there are some traffic lights,at a road called hart lane hartlepool. For the last two days they have not been working,my approach red other green. So not just me but other cars slowly went through for the last two days, but this morning at 5.10.I approached the lights they were red,a police car pulled directly behind me from a side road.So i waited for approx 4min he did not do anything, like flash or blow his horn.No other cars passed in front of me or were waiting opposite me,i knew he was there so i pulled out.He immediately followed me keeping back for about 1 mile, then he put his lights on and i stopped. He asked if i knew what he was stopping me for,so i said yes for going through a red light. He said well why did you,i explained that for the last two days the lights were faulty, and i had gone through on red the last two mornings. He said he had gone through there earlier on blues and twos, and that his side was green and the other red.I don't know which direction he was coming from,so they probably were.He told me the dangers of going through red lights, and that i was on his camera doing it.He said he should be issuing me with 3 points and £100 fine, but has decided not to take action. He then noticed my seat belt was not on(BTW my wife and i always ware our belts)and asked why.I told him the truth that when he stopped me,i pulled in put the car in park and put the handbrake on.And undid my belt in case he wanted me to get out of the car,as the engine was still running. He leaned right in to the car and said,ok sir i believe you and i wont be taking any further action on the seat belt. And the only reason i am letting you off for the red light,is that it 5.15 in the morning and the roads are quiet.Think i was quite lucky don't you, could have done me for both offenses.I think he was quite professional and lenient, nice to think there are still some good cops out there. But the wife is still worried,he could go back to the nick and change his mind. And the first thing i know about it is letters in the post,he gave me no documents at the roadside. So i assume he cant :-\ i hope so.Dean.

General Discussion Area / Car insurance
« on: 28 October 2015, 11:09:16 »
Hi all, anybody had any dealings with Hastings direct.Just had a ridiculously low quote for the omega from them,£229 fully comp. But you know the old saying,if it looks to good to be true it probably is.Just wondered if anyone is or has been insured by them. After being with saga for 2 years they want £572 just for fully comp, with no extras except protected ncd.Any opinions welcomed.Dean :y

General Discussion Area / Big Thanks.
« on: 18 October 2015, 19:05:58 »
To Gastronomickleptomaniac, aka Pete for taking the time to look at my car again. To cut along story short,a few week back he changed my hbv.Did an excellent job,but when he put everything together again we had an air leak.He was a bit annoyed the car was not running,as well as it was when i took it to him.So today he changed his shift at short notice, and went through everything he had done.Low and behold when he lifted the plenum, one of the o rings on the right hand side 1st one in.Was sitting in the front v so had obviously fell out when he replaced the plenum, but there was no way we would have seen it.He refitted it and everything else he had taken off,no air leak car now running sweet as a nut.His wife even noticed i had a side light out as i drove away, and he sorted that as well.I just wanted to say a big thanks to you,it was a pleasure to meet you both and your beautiful dog.If i can ever help you out in any way, please don't hesitate to contact me.Kind Regards Dean. :) :y

Omega General Help / Air leak
« on: 08 October 2015, 19:07:46 »
Hi all need some advice please.Changed the HBV the other day to see if it would increase the cabin heat.It made no difference at all,so i am assuming my H/matrix is blocked so i will try to sort that out.The problem i have now is after putting everything back together,i have an air leak from some where. At idle it wont stay stable and keeps hunting, above and below 500rpm.It was fine before i pissed about with it,and i have not removed any vac pipes to my knowledge. How is the best way to go about finding it,should i just spray carb cleaner all over the engine. And listen for a change in revs, or is there a better way of systematically going round the engine to see if i can find it. Wished i had not messed around now as it was running sweet as a nut.Any advice greatly appreciated.Dean
