Just bought a Renault clit for a certain young lady, its a 1.5dci on an 02 plate that came along at a very very good price. Went to tax it for six months and the cashier told me i could'nt, when i asked why she asked me if i could not afford £34 for twelve months road tax :-[ I really did not know you could tax a car for so little, so the next project......................a 1.5dci engine into an elite ;D then again maybe not ;D

It's just nearly £1600 to insure my 19 yr old son on an Mreg 1.4 Astra! :'( It is a comprehensive policy though :-?

insurance cheeper than a saxo but still £840 :o but she has to start somewhere and as she is working and living in deepest darkest Derbyshire for the next year i wanted her to have a decent car (i know Renault and decent dont go together before someone points out the obvious). As for why the tax is so cheap is because it is on of the lowest polouting cars on the road, i take this as the carbon offset thing, i'm offseting the miggys carbon footprint with the clit's emmisions ;D

Why comprehensive? If he prangs it , just buy another..

and the cars market value is erm.... politely.... a little bit less than £1600 I suspect??
I personally think that they have asked way over the odds for a car of that age..... but rules is rules and we have to buy insurance! :-[
I pay £35 a month for my 2.5 v6 Omega.... but I am(nearly) twice the age of your son and have 4 years no claims. To be fair I was never a boy racer and got punished for insurance when I was younger.... although they didn't realise I had a 1.6 escort engine with twin webers in my fiesta 1.3 supersport shell back in the day ::)

Bet they soon would have if you put it into a tree and was subject of a claim or an examination by the Police or Insurance Assessor. I know Traffic Cops who regularly contact the Insurance Companies at the roadside when a car is stopped to verify whether full details were disclosed at inception - does Mum usually drive a chipped and cammed, fully neon lit, slammed, DVD'd, ultra large tyred, sewer pipe exhausted rattle box with an over assisted sound system at 40 odd years of age? - and have the mods been declared?
Nope, didn't think so...... :-?

That seems a bit excessive for a 1.4, I'm 19 and pay £1500 for a 3.0l MV6 although that is 3rd party fire and theft.

i pay £1200 for my insurance on my 2.0l 16v cdx i'm 21 with no no claims, and fully comprehensive!!!!

Im 32 now and only pay £450 f/c on my 3ltr elite with full no/claims does that sound ok.
