General Discussion Area / Personal information
« on: 09 October 2016, 13:00:07 »
After reading Mister Rog's post in Stemo's thread, I totally agree with him regarding this information should not be widely available.
The other night, swmbo and I were discussing the age of a certain female newsreader. So I googled and a link I clicked not only revealed the age, but also gave the details of a company she was a director of. And, more importantly, her home address was there for all to see. This brings back memories of Jill Dando. It's all wrong this information is there for anybody to access. Does anger me >:(

General Car Chat / Caravan ins versus car ins....
« on: 05 October 2016, 16:41:04 »
After reading about hikes in car insurance.....I have made two claims on my caravan insurance this year, one for £500 for a new front window, and another for a shower tray repair which cost £622.
My insurance has gone up this year.....by £3.00 for the whole year.!!!!!! Yet overall cost for the caravan insurance is £198 per year, which is only a few pounds less than I pay on the cars !!!!!
What would my car insurance have gone up had I made those two claims on the Omega's :)

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Charging query
« on: 19 September 2016, 22:23:09 »
Hi all....
Today I had a problem with the 2.5 estate, in as much as not having an issue, but today only had enough guts to start. Drove about ten miles, left it for about half an hour, and battery was flat. Had to start it with a starter pack., same thing happened at the next stop. So, on the way back to the caravan, I noticed a sign that said, 'Batteries, Tyres, etc. Pulled in, chap came straight out, polite asked if he could help. Asked if he could test a battery. ' Sure I'll do it now'.
Put a machine on it, and started giving me the readouts.
What he told me was....Alternator reg low........Charging 13.96. Then Battery 36%. What does that mean....'Battery no good', I was told.. Told him to fit a new one.
Then I took stock of my surroundings and to my horror, further along was a hoarding 'Kwik-Fit.'
What do those readings mean, was I given bullsh*t or genuine info. Seemed a really helpful guy (different to the noob that fitted the battery, who got a bollocking from my guy for not fitting it properly.!!!!!!!)

General Discussion Area / Rechargeable batteries
« on: 19 September 2016, 11:26:32 »
Morning all...
I have an old set of Sony wireless headphones. The batteries are not holding charge now. I have taken the cover off and it has a Sony BP-HP550-11 rechargeable battery. Looking to replace, but Sony version is £23.00. Found other versions, with a varied price range. The power is 2.4v, 700 mah. it is two batteries. They are listed as suitable for various headphones etc, but as I said, loads of prices. If the battery is a replacement for the Sony one, surely they must all fit, regardless of price ?
Input appreciated, before I waste money. :y

General Discussion Area / A34 again
« on: 31 August 2016, 09:18:38 »
Don't know if any of you watched South Today news on TV, but evidently there was another crash on the A34, near that bad one.
But to show their stupidity, South Today put a correspondent in a lorry to drive on the A34 and get his responses to questions about the road.
The questions asked of the driver were....Should Lorries be confined to the inside lane :o
Should there be 'Crawler lanes' ???
What would be the best safety improvement. :)

Imo....three lanes is the only way to go. Crawler lanes result in lorries still having to join the main carriageway.
Banning lorries to the inside lane is absurd.
When questioned about the main public hate...lorries overtaking at 1mph faster than the vehicle being overtaken, and taking sometimes miles to get past, was to get rid of limiters!!! Can't comment as I know nothing on that subject.
However, three lanes opens it up to the publics next main hate...middle lane hoggers !!!!!! >:(

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Parasitic drain
« on: 25 August 2016, 10:18:04 »
Hi all....

I definitely have a parasitic drain on my 2.5 estate. New battery, and still flat after leaving for a while. Other cars start perfect.
So...following a link I searched on here to a video of how to test and cure, I seem to have a drain of 3.0.
The next step is fuse pulling. However, the chap doing the vid says disconnect the meter before you open any doors. Then clamp the door open mechanism switch in the closed position.
Sorry if this is a 'duh' question, but how to you clamp the door switch in on the Omega. In the vid, his was on the door post...easy.
TIA :y

Omega General Help / Expansion tank
« on: 01 August 2016, 11:56:54 »
Hi all....
Can anyone supply a link to anyone who sells the expansion tanks (new) and have them in stock. I have tried Googling, Bing, E-Bay etc, but I can't, as of yet, find anyone selling them. Need the one with a sensor (2003, 2.6) Place where I got my last one has not got any.
I expect Vx, if they still stock them, will be horrendous price.
Its not an end of the world problem. Coolant Level check comes on when the temp gets to about 92deg, despite it being full of coolant. Goes off again after a while, when you get going and the temp drops to 85deg or less.
Just that one day, it may tell the truth, and I will ignore it. :y

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Fuse quality
« on: 27 July 2016, 16:52:45 »
Left home yesterday (2.5 Elite Estate) all well until leaving M27, when steering felt heavy. Later noticed no aircon/heater. This morning, checked fuse 14...blown. Replaced, turned on ignition, turned on aircon...working. Started engine..fuse 14 blew. Replaced with another fuse...fuse blew. Not having any more 30amp. I put a 20amp in (bit better looking quality) turned on ignition, then aircon...all ok. Started engine, went for a drive around the block...all ok, and steering feels light again.
Are fuses supposed to conform to the same spec? Why did three 30amps blow (including original) but the 20amp is holding ok (so far)
Obviously, need to know what caused the problem in the first place. Only thing common is cambelt was changed last week, but car was ok until yesterday. :(

General Car Chat / Thanks to Nick W
« on: 18 July 2016, 17:48:50 »
I have to say a big thankyou to Nick W for coming up here last Friday and changing two cambelt kits.
Weather was good for the first one, but started to rain for the second. Solved by me getting our large garden brolly out and protecting my valiant warrior, who, despite the rain initially, kept on working.
Next one is the saloon in 2019 :)

Omega General Help / Advice please
« on: 11 July 2016, 10:09:24 »
Hi all....

I need a bit of advice on the cambelt kits. There seems to be a vast difference in price between different engine numbers. It seems my engine numbers always come up in the dearest section.
How important are these numbers. I always thought that the engines were the same. When James fitted the kit onto my 03 2.6, I just ordered the cheapest Conti set at 90.00. Was I lucky...it fitted perfectly. Never have bothered about engine numbers in the past, just bought by price and make :-[
I just looked a ECP and for my 2000 2.5. they want 157.00 !!!!!
Is there any difference in the 2.6 models, and ....do 2.6 kits fit a 2.5.
TIA :y
