Well done Steve,I'm a farmer's son but never got to grips with losing animals  very well,I was fine with the ones that went to market but the ones that died at home I found difficult, stupid really as they all end up dead :'(

His secret is out. The grumpy old scouse reprobate is really just a big softie with a heart of gold. I shall never be stung by his insults again, as he obviously cant mean any of them.

Just been back over to the yard. A woman arrived in a truck, dropped the tailgate and unceremoniously winched Poppy into the back of it. I don't know what else I expected exactly, there isn't a nice way to move three quarters of a ton of dead animal, I suppose.  :(

Tell you one thing, I wouldn't make a very good farmer.

Yeh that's the bit that really got to me at the time....

Scousers always seem to frown. Far more than people from elsewhere. :)

Well done Steve, not much fun to be had out of that. But on the positive side, there will be a lot of nice German steaks from the remains. :y

What? Too soon? ::)

Do they still turn horses into glue?
Think that,s just the hooves M,Lud. I suppose the rest goes for pet food. Or, a Findus cottage pie?  ;D

I grew up farming, Steve. You do get used to these horrible happenings, although it does hit you hard. When you have seen a calf born, you raise it, but you have to face the truth...one day it must go.
Horses, due to their longevity of life, do, I think, have a special relationship with their owners. I am so pleased you helped the old lady, and indeed Poppy. :)

Thanks, Tony. Poppy's daughter, Lulu, who is 16, is now on her own. She can see my back door from the yard and, every time she sees me roll up in the car, she stands at the gate making a terrible racket. Obviously missing mum. I go over and take her some carrots, but I'd better be careful, or it will become part of my daily routine.

Struth, Steve....they are trusting up there. Down here with those rickety gates, those two would have been 'rustled' years ago.  :o

 ;D ;D Evidently it's not as grim oop norf as we are lead to believe? Unless, of course, said ponies are both primary mode of transport and home heating system. Snuggle up in winter!

(On a serious note, good on you Steve for doing what you did, you big softie)
