John Lewis/Waitrose are have a rebranding exercise.

Nice little earner for some marketing agency will have zero impact on whether I buy from them and might even mean that I can't find a shop even if I wanted to...

There are a handful of songs I would really like never to have to hear ever again, and that's one of them. Now its on TV being sung by kids every ten bloody minutes.

Layla
Freebird
Stairway to heaven
Bohemian rhapsody

All great songs but Ive heard them a million fickin times. Enough already.  ::)

I would put Come on Eileen Dexys Midnight Runners way in front of those.

Mrs. KW had one stipulation to the DJ at our wedding.

"If you play "come on Eileen", your electrical supply will be immediately disconnected.

As it happens, his electrical supply was immediately disconnected, but not because he played that particular track. It was because my dad (Beng Hons ACGI FIET) was playing about with a dodgy set of fairy lights during the disco. ::)

I can't believe anyone watches ads these days? If commercial TV has something you want to watch, record it and skip the ads. :y

If nobody watched them and/or if they didn't work then companies wouldn't have them. Advertising is a vast industry whether it's on TV, Paper Publications, Internet, Hoardings whatever. Male pride may not like this, but there's a saying that nobody ever just bought anything, it was always sold to them somehow.  ::)

How can you say that about Stairway to heaven, its a brilliant song, hardley ever hear itr on the Radio.

Know what you mean though, the 2 Songs that set me off are Merry Christmas Everybody by Slade and Merry Christmas by Wizzard, I can be standing in a Pub, Bar, Club etc and I will go into Terminator self destruct mode if they get played.

The other thing for me is a personal thing, had for years, when ever I drive pass a Bus Garage, the theme from On The Buses, comes straight into my head, problem it will stay with me for the rest of the day, drives me mad by bedtime.

In terms of never wanting to hear it yes. However the others are great, but overplayed, songs, whereas Come on Eileen was just a load of irritating noise the very first time I heard it.  :)

True, but we on OOF are too smart to fall for them, aren't we. ::)

Thus my "male pride" comment  ::)

We all make buying decisions about all sorts of things. And all sorts of things influence those buying decisions, even minutely. Far too complex to explain in a line or two. But there's always a reason you choose to buy one thing instead of another. The macho male will say "it's because I know what I'm doing", yes of course  ::) . . . .

You need a DAB radio Chris. Ive had trouble escaping Zeppelin today on the rock channels. Im not a huge fan tbh. Always thought they were somewhat over rated. All that mystical mumbo jumbo bollix in the lyrics of Stairway gets on my wick nowadays.  ;D

I find it remarkable that payday loans and gambling are so widely advertised. Even more problems than obesity, smoking, and drinking.

They are legitimate businesses, you can't just outlaw them.
