There was a 'review' on fifth gear on Monday night. Probably on 5OD now. They tested it by looking at the outside of it for a bit, then driving over some cobbles until a tyre burst. This, of course, was fun......not. Tossers.

My mistake, it was actually on discovery, sky ch 520. It's repeated at 1.00 am tonight/tomorrow.

Was behind one on my commute today.  From the rear, it looks like it's a load of left-overs from the parts bin screwed together with self-tappers, but each to their own. :y

Would love to see the options sheet for it. Apparently there supposed to be 1 million different combos of interior :o

That's what fifth gear said :)

Looked like a quirky car but not for me I'm afraid

She was dithering on the day but she chose grey with a white roof, I think. She wanted the coffee coloured one but was told the colour had been discontinued.

Its the jointly developed GM/Fiat SCCS platform (Small Common Components and Systems) which is exactly that, a platform (which interestingly is AWD capable to)

So no, its not based on any other car, its a car desigend from the SCCS platform.....as is the Fiat 500 (and Alfa Mito etc etc)  ;D

Saw one of those on the road a few weeks ago - rare as hens teeth so nice to see.  I wouldn't say no, it's a proper bonkers Renault from the very tail end of the era of bonkers hot hatches :y

But then I am fond of the older Renaults having had a very reliable Renault 19 16v and a Renault 5 GT Turbo that was also bulletproof (beside me grenading the turbo twice by asking far too much of it!), always quite fancied a clit Williams.

As it happens all the running gear, engine etc from a Corsa VXR will all fit into an Adam. So stripped out, cage front buckets only, matt black wrap and dropped by about 30mm, oh and remove the reverse lamp and fog lamp and use holes for exhaust tail pipes.

Just need to find a cheap rear ended VXR and an Adam!

Andy

Its a problam that as because the Corasa is front wheel drive they tend to understeer and go head first into the tree, rather than rear wheel drive with over steer where they go arse first!

I'm a massive Vauxhall man. I'll just say that. So when I saw the Adam I thought with sadness "We have forgotten how to style a small car"

Seriously. The Fiesta is a stylish little vibrant design, but it needs 19" wheels to stop the back wheels looking like castors. The 205 and 206 were beautifully proportioned little things, the latest (well, last 10 years of) offerings from Pug are overblown, gaudy. So much is like the Automotive equivalent of that disorder where you shout uncontrollably. LOOK AT MEEEE. I'M MORE STYLED THAN YOUUUU. We're turning into American car design excess of the 50s, but on a worldwide scale.

I genuinely think the last actually beautifully proportioned small cars were the Corsa B 3 dr, 206, that generation. Or, to put it another way, look at the understated grace of a Carlton or Omega, vs the LOOK AT MEE of an Insignia or Mondeo, BMWs.

I'm not having a ranting downer, I mean there's beauty in the car world. Of course, I could list 20 stunning designs that will go down as classics. My point is that the current trend of excess doesn't work too well on a smaller package.

Post by: aaronjb on 21 October 2014, 15:17:55
I actually quite like the Adam - it's not as OTT as some of the French rivals (C3 et al), small, funky, individual (although that is clearly the sales tactic du jour - "Different colour roof, madam? Why of course!")..

Shame the steering column might, y'know, snap..  :o

Looked at the Adam for the missus.  The thing that killed it was the boot lip at the back was very high and as she would use it to go the airport a lot it was a no-go.  I must admit it did drive pretty well for a small car and even I had plenty of space in the driver seat.
Title: Re: Adam
Post by: 05omegav6 on 21 October 2014, 15:42:58
Trouble nowadays is that, particularly with the small car market, there isn't much money in it... The Adam is as styled as it is because the only way to stop it looking like the Ford Kak/Fiat 500 that it's based on is to take the Kak shell, add a swooshing chrome strip to the upper window line and tweak the Fiat 500 front end onto it and stick a Vauxhall badge on each end :-X

The only reason there are so many options is that each trinket added will make it look less like the Kak ::)
