Drax goes woodchip

Forget the local coal. Let's run our largest and most efficient power station on trees that have been cut down and shredded in the US, shipped across the Atlantic, put in railway trucks and transported to the station. Oh, and we'll subsidise it as well with money stolen collected from energy bills.

That's much more efficient, isn't it?  :y

Crikey, I'm getting so used to this topsy-turvy logic that maybe I should stand as a coalition candidate. ::) ::) ::)

Read and cry!  :'(

It isn't all bad news. There is at least one local farmer who has turned his land over to growing trees and has bought expensive equipment(like a combine harvester) to harvest them.  :y

What a bunch of bungling front botties they are making these stupid decisions, thank goodness I have just managed to buy a generator before the lights start to go out!  Seems to me that the only use for politicians is for fuel in Drax instead of woodchips.

I just don't understand how woodchip can be considered 'sustainable' as mankind have been chopping down and burning trees for millenia.  ::)

It's common knowledge that you can burn a tree much quicker than you can grow a new one, so when this is ramped up to industrial levels will Drax cause the deforestation of North America??  :-\

I seem to recall, as well as coal, Drax used locally grown bio fuel?
