No, not really. I am talking about essential test equipment needed for class practicals: even oscilloscopes, big and heavy, went walkabout!
At an earlier college, a senior lecturer thought it would be nice to have some small test meters rather than large Avometers. After I had a gentle word with him, he got them mounted securely on large wooden boards!  :)

Ron.

Right! :o :o

Sounds like your college had "removal men" visiting, no doubt dressed in brown coats and acting the part. You know Ron I partially joke, but it is amazing how your staff, customers, and even 'security' can be fooled by thieves looking the part, and having the bottle, can just walk in unchallenged and pick even very large bits of property up and walk off with it.

My experience included delivery men depositing their delivery goods in a store and picking up parts of a previous delivery due to bad staff training (or stupidity) ;)

That makes sense, Lizzie. The college I worked at did not carry any insurance because of the transient population and criminal intent of the students!
They said the cost of insurance would be prohibitive and would replace any equipment "lost" out of budget. Guess what didn't happen?  :(

Ron

That is what would be different in the academic world compared to retail.  When we lost say £10,000 due to robbery/burglary we HAD to replace the stock to remain in business. A college can make do without a printer or laptop, at least for a few months!! :o :o :D

I doubt the business involved would be able to get insurance cover for significant amounts of cash held on premises over the weekend.

Main line businesses in retail are not insured for stock or cash losses and instead cover themselves as the premiums would be astromical to do so.  No, a hit is taken in the P&L accounts, usually within the gross profit line and is classed as "wastage". ;)

Because they knew they would have to pay out winnings today , so bank the cash for 24 hours extra interest .
plus you'll all need to make a second visit to the shop and may well place another bet  :y

In my experience in the retail trade it was crucial to ensure all week-end takings were 'banked', via Securicor, by 1200 Monday at the absolute latest (as banks accounts only became current again from Midnight on the Sunday) to obtain maximum interest.  In fact my company used to transfer our cash rich deposits from our account to our parents company's bank account to then gain tens of thousands of extra interest in that account worth billions.

Money has to be made to work and in a good business it is made to every hour of the day. ;)

;D ;D ;D  As in most of industry & business . . .customers are the last to be considered  >:(

But it is amazing how often the owners/managers forget the need for MAXIMISING profit, the crucial element of any business.  Then Customer Service can be given from a healthy, viable, entity. A commercial entity that does not look after it's profits will not last long to give that Customer Service the public expect, as many, in large businesses, are now discovering! ;)

JLR are cutting 1000 workers primarily because 90% of their cars run on canal boat fuel and derv sales are down 37% this quarter.

According to The Guardian this is primarily because of BREXIT!  ::)

Actually the Financial Times quoted a JLR spokesman as saying it was all down to our Lord Opti not placing his order for another Jaguar this year! :D :D :D :D ;)

Lizzie. In my opinion Jaguar should never have 'dabbled with derv'. Derv is for lorries, always has been. :y :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

 ;D ;D ;D  Couldn't agree more Opti :-* :-* :-* :y   Lorries or Land Rovers, but not even Range Rovers! ;)

.....................
Regarding the push fit, is there any actual basis for the assertion they don't last? The JG fittings carry a 25yr warranty against manufacturing and material defect.

The only push fit connectors I had in my system (copper throughout) is on the anti-vibration pipes coming directly off the pump. They are threaded on the pump side but push fit on the other end. When I was building my kitchen extension I had to remove the boiler so I was totally dependant on the hot water cylinder immersion heater. I hadn't realised that the cylinder tank stat was set slightly too high, although I found this out when water started coming through the sitting room ceiling. The hot water in the cylinder had reached a higher than usual temperature and the push fits (on the hot side only) had let go. As the fittings on the cold side were fine I can only conclude that the extra heat in the water temperature had fried the O Rings.  :-\
I have since changed this set up to an adapted compression fitting.

Plumber friends of mine would never use push-fit joints, and nor would I.  The simplicity and long term security of pre-soldered joints gives me no reason for even considering the 'amatuer' route.  The joy in seeing the solder show around a pre-soldered, or even plain metal coupling is so satisfying, and you know that will last.  I have heard of cases where the push-fit joints have popped off due to various reasons, including a reaction to metal fittings.  Why risk it? ;)

WHat happens, guessing the little clip on the horshoe snaps off?

Heavy handedness, as never broken one myself, and must have replaced hundreds of batteries, and probably repaired nearly as many fobs...

 :-\

Happens all the time. I've spent far too much time on my hands and knees looking for customer's immobiliser chips. Every one of them had big bunches of keys, which is also true of worn ignition lock barrels.

Good point, actually. I think my keyring is due a cull. ;D

Just put all the extras in the centre arm rest like James..  ;) :-[ (Sorry James ;))

..............or get a handbag, sorry, manbag, as then you do not need to keep all your keys on one ring :D :D :D ;)

Is this a common problem.  Never had an issue on any of mine?

If ever I did break a fob, I'd rummage through my spares box, and dig out the tech2, and treat it to a "new" one.

I think it may have happened to one of mine once.

I might not have a genuine Tech II but can achieve the same  :y, that said, should only be a case of cutting the blade if replacing the horseshoe, PCB and Immobiliser chip will swap over.

But that involves cost, with a new blade and then having it cut. My solution cost nothing as I have spare electrical fittings for grub screws in stock.

In addition my fobs have had their locking tabs forced too many times by Vx technicians when giving me a battery change at the annual service. Previous ones also suffered from the same treatment, but at my hand!! ;)

RedTube on the other hand will unblock even the most bloked of pipes.  :o

Bloke pipes?  Nothing like bloky pipes! :D :D ;)

A couple of blobs from a hot glue gun works.

Then you cannot get to the battery ::) ::) :D ;)

Kevin, all this talk about flanges sounds quite rude! Boosting the output from the DHW cylinder sounds like a good plan, as there is room (and mains power) in the airing cupboard. Just an inline pump, yes?
Lizzie, you paint a frightening picture; I do not want to crawl into my cramped loft and lift the tank - not much height to raise it to, either.

Thanks,
Ron.

Not a wimp, Lizzie - just a fat bastard that doesn't want to get stuck!  :-[ :-[ :-[
